Going late to bed tied to development of premature coronary artery disease

Sleep is the most crucial parameter to balance health and lead a healthy life, several studies on sleep speak volumes about its benefactrices. A recent study in the Archives of Iranian Medicine has linked late bedtime with the presence of premature coronary artery disease (PCAD).

However, the authors stress the need for future prospective studies to elucidate the exact role of late bedtime in the development of premature coronary atherosclerosis. Prior to the study, not much was known regarding the impact of quantity and quality of sleep on the incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Shorter treatment better for young children with outpatient pneumonia

Antibiotics are often prescribed for most of the infections and viral diseases. However, they have more side effects but are effective means of treatment for many diseases. Five days of antibiotics is superior to 10 days for children with community-acquired pneumonia who are not hospitalized, according to a study published in JAMA Pediatrics.

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a common and serious infection that leads to 1.5 million doctor visits in the U.S. each year. Doctors typically treat CAP with a 10-day course of antibiotics, but the standard treatment could have negative effects from the antibiotics themselves or harm caused by unnecessary antibiotic use.

Fruit intake boosts mood after Pavlovian progressive muscle relaxation conditioning

Fruits are popularly known for their health benefits, addition to their diet has improved greatly. Fruit intake may improve mood after Pavlovian progressive muscle relaxation conditioning, finds a recent study published in Psychosomatic Medicine. Perceived stress, lower fruit intake, and comfort eating are all risk factors for chronic disease.

The present pilot study aimed to simultaneously mitigate all three risk factors by applying Pavlovian conditioning to change the nature of comfort eating. Specifically, stressed participants underwent a Pavlovian conditioning intervention designed to elicit comforting effects of fruit intake and thereby reduce negative mood while promoting fruit intake.

Oral hydroxyzine safe option for oral sedation for kids during dental treatment

Children are very difficult to handle during oral procedures, they are most restless and scared than normal people. Oral hydroxyzine could be safely used as oral sedation for children during dental treatment, according to a recent study published in the European Archives of Pediatric Dentistry.

Management of a child's anxiety early in their treatment is essential in dentistry. Sedative medications are used to overcome increased anxiety from previous appointments and to promote the cooperation of children during treatment. Hydroxyzine is currently prescribed to young patients as part of the first level of conscious sedation. The main objective was to evaluate the professional practice of oral hydroxyzine when prescribed for children presenting anxiety during dental treatment procedures performed by students and senior practitioners.
