E cigarette use linked with risk of pediabetes American journal of preventive medicine

A new study findings, which was reported in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, published by Elsevier, add important evidence about the health effects of e-cigarettes and can help shape public health best practices.

"Our study demonstrated a clear association of prediabetes risk with the use of e-cigarettes," explained lead investigator Shyam Biswal, PhD, Department of Environmental Health and Engineering, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, MD, USA. "With both e-cigarette use and prevalence of prediabetes dramatically on the rise in the past decade, our discovery that e-cigarettes carry a similar risk to traditional cigarettes with respect to diabetes is important for understanding and treating vulnerable individuals."

Prolonged Exposure to Angiotensin-receptor blockers Linked with Cancer Risk PLOS ONE

Angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARBs) are a class of drugs approved for the treatment of several common conditions, such as hypertension and heart failure. Recently, regulatory agencies have started to identify possibly carcinogenic nitrosamines and azido compounds in a multitude of formulations of several ARBs, resulting in progressive recalls.

In a recent study, researchers have found that the risk of cancer with ARBs (and specifically lung cancer) increases with increasing cumulative exposure to these drugs. The study findings were published in the journal Plos One on March 02, 2022.

Tic severity linked with social media use for teens during pandemic American Academy of Neurology's 73rd Annual Meeting

An increase in social media use among teens and young adults during the COVID-19 pandemic may be linked to an increase in tic severity, according to a small, preliminary study released today, February 28, 2022, that will be presented at the American Academy of Neurology's 73rd Annual Meeting being held in person in Seattle, April 2 to 7, 2022 and virtually, April 24 to 26, 2022.

Tics are sudden, uncontrollable movements and sounds often prompted by an irresistible urge to produce them. They are the defining feature of chronic tic disorders, including Tourette syndrome, which is a neuro develop mental disorder that begins in childhood.

Tic Severity Linked With Social Media Use For Teens During Pandemic

Periprocedural antithrombotics dangerous for endovascular stroke treatment The Lancet

Antithrombotics are dangerous during stroke thrombectomy, according to a recent study published in the Lancet. Therefore giving Antithrombotics like IV aspirin and/or unfractionated heparin during endovascular stroke treatment does not seem to be a good idea reveals the MR CLEAN-MED trial.

Aspirin and unfractionated heparin are often used during endovascular stroke treatment to improve reperfusion and outcomes. However, the effects and risks of antithrombotics for this indication are unknown. They, therefore, aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of intravenous aspirin, unfractionated heparin, both, or neither started during endovascular treatment in patients with ischaemic stroke.
