More cancers are diagnosed at an advanced stage if patients already have type 2 diabetes

We all are aware of the fact that lifestyle factors such as diet, alcohol intake, exercise and body weight are known to be associated with the onset of both cancer and cardiometabolic disease. High blood sugar levels that are involved in diabetes have been shown to increase cell signalling by the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which can lead to more advanced cancers and decreased survival.

A study of close to 12000 people in six European countries has shown that people with type 2 diabetes who develop cancer are more likely to be diagnosed with advanced disease if the condition is one that is not screened for routinely. Study was presented in the 13th European Breast Cancer Conference.

Cannabis not made safer by increasing its CBD content

Cannabis nowadays is widely used for recreational and medicinal drugs. New research from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King's College London has found no evidence that cannabidiol (CBD) reduces the negative effects of cannabis.

The research, published in Neuropsychopharmacology, challenges the commonly held belief that using cannabis that contains higher levels of cannabidiol protects the user from psychotic experiences and memory problems, and suggests that this should be considered by policy makers currently exploring the topic of medicinal and recreational use.

Persistent hematuria associated with strong risks of chronic kidney disease

Hematuria, as we all know is characterized by the presence of blood in the urine, has been reported to be associated with increased risk of chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, the relationship between hematuria that persists over time and kidney function is not clear. This present study, recently published in the American Journal of Kidney Disease (AJKD) reveals the importance of monitoring hematuria.
