56% of adolescents show moderate level of 'problematic' internet use, reveals AIIMS study - Video
Overview
Internet addiction is a growing concern among adolescents, exposure to it over time has been a leading cause of decline in cognitive performance and their efficiency academically.
A study conducted by AIIMS Bhopal has unveiled that a significant percentage of adolescents between the ages of 14 and 19 are addicted to the internet, with 65.52% of males and 34.48% of females falling into this category. The study encompassed a sample of 348 students.
When categorized by academic level, the findings indicated that 38.79% of the participants were in the 10th standard, 33.62% were in the 11th standard, and 27.59% were studying in the 12th standard. A majority of 37.93% reported using the internet for more than three years, while the highest proportion of students (44.8%) utilized the internet primarily for online gaming.
