Stroke occurrence linked to familial history
Overview
stroke is the second leading cause of death world wide however its management is a growing burden as reoccurences are most common in the past decade has drastically
Previous studies report paternal or sibling stroke was associated with increased risk of offspring stroke. Whether family history of cardiovascular disease predicts risk of stroke recurrence remains unclear.
The Journal of stroke and cerebrovascular diseases found that family history of cardiovascular disease i.e history of coronary heart disease (CHD) or stroke among first-degree relatives including parents, children, and siblings (same parents) were at increased risk of stroke recurrence even under primary secondary prevention treatment.
