Underdiagnosed condition-Sarcopenia Ft Dr (Prof) Raju Vaishya - Video
Overview
Sarcopenia is an idiopathic, age related, progressive, and generalized skeletal muscle disorder involving the accelerated loss of muscle mass and function and physical performance such as increased risk falls, physical frailty, prolonged hospitalization, dependency, physical disability and impairment, limitation of mobility, decreased quality of life and increased mortality.
The current research is a bibliometric analysis that aimed to analyze the high-cited papers (HCPs), those which have received >100 citations) on Sarcopenia to provide insight into publication performances and research characteristics of the literature.
Based on the results, the authors concluded that Sarcopenia research has been predominantly done in USA, Europe, and China, and rarely from low and middle-income countries. Further focus of research should be on its etiopathogenesis (especially at the molecular level), prevalence in different communities, methods to diagnose it in early stages, and its cost-effective management concluded the researchers.
To talk to us in detail about Sarcopenia and how very little is known about this condition, we have with us today, the lead author of the article, Dr. (Prof) Raju Vaishya who is a renowned Orthopedics and joint replacement surgeon having an experience of more than 35 years. He is currently a Senior Consultant at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.
