Pune Hospital doctors successfully extract Watermelon-Sized tumor - Video
Overview
A 90-year-old resident of Chakan with a history of six months of abdominal pain has had a successful operation at PCMC-run Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital to remove a cancerous tumor weighing 6.5kg, approximately the size of a watermelon. The extensive five-hour surgery took place on October 10, with the patient spending one day in the ICU.
The patient had previously sought treatment at several hospitals and tried various remedies without success. Due to the high cost of treatment at private hospitals, the patient and family opted to approach YCMH. After admission on October 4 and a series of medical tests and scans, the patient was diagnosed with a large cancerous tumor in his abdomen that was affecting the function of his right kidney.
The surgery team was led by Dr Santosh Thorat, Consultant Laparoscopic GI and HPB surgeon at YCM Hospital, Pune.
In this video, Dr. Santosh Thorat talks about talks about case history, complications faced during surgery, and prognosis.
