UK woman becomes the First known patient to Die from “Liquid Brazilian Butt Lift” - Video
Overview
A 33-year-old UK woman has died after undergoing a suspected “liquid Brazilian butt lift” procedure. She is thought to be the first woman to die after this risky procedure.
Local police said patient Alice Webb had undergone a “suspected cosmetic procedure” before falling ill. Two people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, the force said.
A liquid Brazilian Butt Lift, a less invasive and non-surgical cosmetic procedure, is done to enhance the shape and volume of the buttocks using injectable dermal fillers or bio stimulatory agents like hyaluronic acid, sculptra or radiesse. On the contrary, the traditional Brazilian butt lift involves fat grafting from other body areas and injecting it into the buttocks. The longevity of the results of Liquid Brazilian Butt Lift varies between 1-2 years, unlike traditional butt lift which offers more long-lasting results. Liquid Brazilian Butt Lift is often promoted as a risk-free and cheaper alternative to traditional butt lift.
The procedure takes about 60 minutes and gives instant results which improve over 2-4 weeks.
There are some serious risks involved with the procedure which can be life-threatening. If the dermal filler is injected into or near a blood vessel, it can lead to occlusion of blood vessels which can cause tissue necrosis. This tissue necrosis in some rare cases can cause severe complications like stroke. Poor injection practices and inadequate sterilisation could lead to sepsis-a life-threatening systemic infection.
Save Face, a national register of accredited practitioners stated that this was the “first case of a death caused by a non surgical Brazilian butt lift in the UK”
