FNB Paediatric Urology: Admissions, Medical Colleges, Fees, Eligibility criteria details
FNB Paediatric Urology or Fellow of National Board in Paediatric Urology also known as FNB in Paediatric Urology is a doctoral fellowship program for doctors in India that is done by them after completion of their postgraduate medical degree course. The duration of the FNB course is for 2 years.
FNB Paediatric Urology deals with the recognition, prevention, treatment (surgical and non-surgical), and rehabilitation of congenital and acquired diseases, malformations, and functional problems of the genitourinary system in children.
Candidates can get admission to 2 years FNB course after successfully qualifying for the FET (Fellowship Entrance Test) examination which NBEMS conducts. FET is conducted annually as per the prescribed schedule. The merit-based counselling for admissions to the FNB Programme after the conduct of FET is administered by NBEMS.

Admission Process
The admission process contains a few steps for the candidates for admission to FNB. Candidates can view the complete admission process for FNB Paediatric Urology mentioned below:
- FET is a qualifying-cum-ranking examination for admission to Fellow of National Board (FNB)/Fellow of National Board - Post Doctoral (FNB-PD) courses.
- The selection of a student will be through an MCQ-based examination namely Fellowship Entrance Test.
- A student can apply for the fellowship courses for which his/her broad or super specialty qualification/ equivalent qualification is eligible, at the time of online submission of the application form.
- The total duration of the question paper will be 105 minutes (Part A - 45 minutes and Part B - 60 minutes).
- QUALIFYING CRITERIA: Students who obtain a minimum of 50th Percentile in their respective question paper/specialty shall be declared as “Qualified”.
- NBEMS shall declare a specialty-wise merit list i.e., there will be a separate merit list for each fellowship course. There shall not be any equating/scaling and normalization. The merit shall be generated strictly based on marks obtained by the student and the application of the prescribed tie-breaking criteria.
- The admission to Fellowship courses in the accredited hospitals shall be undertaken solely based on merit-based counseling conducted by NBEMS.
- Documents required to be produced at the time of counseling: MBBS Degree Certificate and MD/MS/DNB/DM/MCh/DrNB Degree Certificate/Provisional Pass Certificate of eligible Post Graduate Medical Qualification issued.

Theoretical knowledge:
The trainee is a surgical specialist who has certification in Urology or Paediatric Surgery from the National Authority. To build up her or his experience, the trainee should be involved in the management (including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care) of a significant number of in-patients and out-patients. He/she also must be willing to take part in educational activities within the institution. She/he should participate in research activities and produce a scientific output during her/his training e.g. a scientific paper or a presentation. Theoretical knowledge covers the whole spectrum of pediatric urology including embryology, normal development of a child, natural history of the prenatal and postnatal findings, surgical and non-surgical management of the child as well as daily care of children with congenital anomalies and acquired diseases of the urogenital system. The trainee must be aware of the consequences of urological diseases as well as the invasive treatment modalities for kidney function. The trainee must be also familiar with the long-term outcome of the surgical and non-surgical treatment as well as with the management of late complications to help in the transition to adolescent adulthood. Special attention must be put on the recognition and management of child abuse through pediatric urology training.

The trainee should have sufficient linguistic ability to communicate with patients and colleagues and to study international literature.
The candidate has to take an active part (performing surgery under supervision, performing the surgery, or assisting surgery to residents) in a sufficient number of pediatric urology operative procedures equally divided during the training period covering the entire field of pediatric urology as specified below. At the end of her/his training period, the candidate should be able to perform most of the surgeries independently. Since one hospital may not be able to provide adequate exposure to the wide spectrum of anomalies, these lacunae must be filled by rotation of postings as per the guidance provided by the National Board.
