Kolkata: Alleging that the doctors on duty were delaying treatment to the patient, 10 attendants of the patient assaulted doctors at the state-run hospital recently. Two causalities have been reported during the violent clash. Meanwhile, two persons have been held for the crime.
The incident took place at NRS Medical College and Hospital, when around 3.25 am, 10 people rushed a 21-year-old road accident victim to the emergency wing of the hospital.
While the patient was under observation, the anxious relatives began complaining that the doctors on duty were taking time to start treatment. Shortly after assertion, an argument broke out between the mob and the doctors, where the doctors claimed that the relatives were interfering with their work.
Thereafter, the mob allegedly started assaulting doctors, during which a junior doctor got hurt and an intern sustained a minor injury on the face, according to the report by The Times of India.
Following the episode, the hospital authorities called the police, who after arriving at the spot calmed down the situation. The hospital authorities later lodged a complaint against the attackers, after which the police arrested two of the accused under IPC sections pertaining to assault, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.
“It is good to see that police action was prompt in this case. But we want adequate security in the emergency wing, especially at night. It is difficult to work in such volatile situations,” a junior doctor stated while talking to TOI.
