It’s Official: NEET is Mandatory for pursuing MBBS from Abroad

Currently, NEET scores have a validity of only one year. However, this combined with the fact that its mandatory for foreign medical education, would imply that besides domestic, those students wanting to go abroad for MBBS would also have to appear for the exam again and again.

In order to bring relief to such students, the government was mulling on the proposal to increase the validity of NEET scores, so that students who wish to go abroad in the next two years after giving their NEET exam are able to do so without appearing for the entrance again and again.

The New Indian Express now reports that the proposal has found the favour of the Medical Council of India as well as the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

“This is being done to help students who might be living outside India and are willing to come back after becoming doctors,” a senior official with the ministry told TNIE. “This will save students the hassle of taking NEET all over again if for some reason they can’t join a medical college in the year they appear for NEET,” he added.
