Loberamisal Improves Functional Recovery After Acute Ischemic Stroke: JAMA

China: A new study published in JAMA has revealed that intravenous loberamisal, compared with placebo, increased the likelihood of achieving a full functional outcome at 90 days among patients with acute ischemic stroke treated within 48 hours of symptom onset. However, further studies are needed to confirm these findings and determine whether the benefits extend to a broader patient population.
- 69.7% of patients receiving loberamisal achieved an mRS score of 0 to 1 at 90 days, compared with 56.3% receiving placebo.
- Loberamisal was associated with a 24% higher relative likelihood of achieving a full functional outcome (RR, 1.24).
- The absolute difference between groups was 13.28 percentage points.
- Adverse events occurred in 87.8% of the loberamisal group and 88.7% of the placebo group.
- Serious adverse events were reported in 8.6% versus 10.7%, respectively.
- All-cause mortality occurred in 1.2% of loberamisal-treated patients versus 2.0% with placebo.
