1-year Bond service, Rs 50 lakh penalty: Karnataka PG medical admissions

Bond Service
Bengaluru: Doctors getting admitted to postgraduate medical courses in Karnataka will have to undergo one year of compulsory bond service in a Government hospital.
This rule applies to all the candidates who take admission to PG Medical Degree/Diploma courses in Government / Private / Deemed colleges under Government quota or Private quota, NRI quota or Management quota and successfully complete the Post Graduate Degree/Diploma, except for those candidates who have undergone compulsory rural service after the award of the MBBS degree
Meanwhile, for the candidates selecting Government Seats, including All India Quota seats, in Post Graduate Medical Courses, the period of compulsory service will be a minimum of three years. Failure to fulfill the bond requirements will result in the candidates paying Rs 50 lakh bond penalty for PG degree courses and Rs 25 lakh for PG Diploma courses.
The bond service rules for the PG medical and dental courses were specified by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) in the e-Information Bulletin for admission to Post Graduate Medical / Dental Courses for the year 2025.
Compulsory Rural Service for One Year:
As per the e-Information Bulletin, this Rural Service Bond is to be submitted by all categories of candidates allotted to Government/Private/Deemed colleges under the Government quota or Private quota, or Management Quota.
The Information Bulletin stated, "All the candidates (other than the candidates who have undergone compulsory rural service after award of MBBS degree) who take admission to PG Medical Degree/Diploma courses in Government / Private / Deemed colleges under Government quota or Private quota or NRI quota or Management quota and successfully complete the Post Graduate Degree/Diploma shall under go one-year compulsory service in Government hospital in urban area as per Karnataka Compulsory service training by the candidates completed medical courses (counselling, allotment, and certification) as per Karnataka Compulsory Service Training by Candidates completed Medical Courses Act, 2012 as amended and rules there under."
It further mentioned that the candidates will be entitled to only temporary registration till the completion of such service.
Three Years of Service After Completion of PG Course:
KEA further specified that the candidates selecting Government seats (including All India quota) in Post Graduate Medical Courses shall furnish an undertaking that he/she shall serve the Government for a minimum period of three years after completion of the course, if the Government desires.
As per the bond undertaking, if the candidate fails to comply with the undertaking, they will have to pay the State Government a penalty of Rs 50 lakh for postgraduate degree and Rs 25 lakh for postgraduate diploma courses. Only after the payment of penalty, the candidates will be able to collect their original documents, which will be in the custody of the institute.
Bond Service Period for In-Service Candidates:
For the in-service candidates, they will have to furnish a bond at the time of admission specifying that they shall render service in the Government for a minimum period of ten years.
