Goa: Induction programme of the first batch of 100 BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) students of the recently inaugurated satellite institute of All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in Goa was organized on Monday.
Addressing the function, special guest on the occasion Shripad Yesso Naik, MoS for Tourism and Ports, Shipping and Waterways said, “The state of Goa and the farmers of the state have contributed bit for setting up of All India Institute of Ayurveda. Professor (Dr) Tanuja Manoj Nesari and her team has worked hard to make the dream of setting up a satellite institute of AIIA in Goa come true.”
Naik also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking special initiatives to boost Ayurveda and for increasing the budget allocated to the Ayurveda institutes. He also thanked the Prime Minister for planning a special Ayush Visa to foster medical tourism.
The function also witnessed the presence of Honourable Harilal B Menon, Vice Chancellor of Goa University as the Chief Guest of the event.
Chief Guest of the function and VC of Goa University, Harilal B Menon described the potential of Ayurveda in his own words and said that the students should conduct Goa-centric research, “Research is something that has been lacking in India. It is time that we adopt the formula of 're' plus 'search' for research. Being in Goa you should do Goa-centric research.
If you survey the length and breadth of Goa, you would find people suffering from many diseases and the reasons behind the same have not been found yet. One of the kidney diseases in North Goa is much talked about and the cause behind the same has not been identified. We should look forward to solving these issues,” he added.
Discussing some facts about Ayurveda to garner the interest of the students, Dr. Manoj Nesari, Advisor, Ministry of Ayush said, “Ayurveda is one of the most advanced sciences of its times and had already conceptualized concepts such as biotechnology. He added that the sky is the limit for the Ayurvedic practitioners over here.
“With time Ayurveda and its concepts have spread to as many as 40 countries including Japan, Netherlands, USA, Brazil and has been curing patients from diseases,” he added.
Talking about the journey of All India Institute of Ayurveda in New Delhi, Professor (Dr) Tanuja Manoj Nesari said that it is the energetic teamwork of the best faculties, management, and leadership amalgamated with the cooperation of the government through the ministry of Ayush, that has helped the institution to grow within a short period of five years. Within five years All India Institute Ayurveda has treated as many as 15 lakh patients, she informed.
“All India Institute of Goa will carve its niche and this moment is like scripting history as this is the first time that AIIA will offer BAMS course to students. I congratulate all students for being a part of this moment and the faculty members for being the pioneers of this change,” she added.
“Ayurveda has been projected by honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the soft-power of India and I believe that the students of here will be ambassadors of India’s Ayurveda across the world.”, she added.
Director, Professor (Dr.)Tanuja Nesari also acknowledged the support of the Goa state government ,as well Ministry of Ayush in establishing the satellite institute of AIIA in Goa.
In her address Prof. (Dr) Sujata Kadam, Dean of AIIA satellite institute in Goa, praised the initiatives of AIIA and said that institute will turn into a green campus by not allowing the use of plastics inside the institute.
Adding that the satellite institution of All India Institute of Ayurveda was the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kadam said, “AIIA is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Ayush. What makes it special is that organisation is a tertiary care institute that work with modern tools and techniques
“AIIA is an autonomous Organisation under MoA. There are around 750 institutions of Ayurveda in India, but what makes AIIA stand apart, is that it is a tertiary care institute that is equipped with modern tools and techniques”, Kadam added.
A grand Dhanvantri Puja and Hawan marked the start of the auspicious ceremony, which was attended by the students and their parents at the AIIA Goa satellite institute situated in Goa.
A plantation drive was also organised at the satellite centre marking the conclusion of the event. Other senior members of the institute were also present on the occasion.
