Health Ministry grants permission for increasing MDS seats at Government Dental College Srinagar
Srinagar: Bringing goods news to the Postgraduate dental aspirants in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has given its permission for increasing the intake capacity of MDS course in four specialties at the Government Dental College & Hospital (GDC&H).
Intake capacity has been increased from 3 to 4 in specialties including Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Periodontology, Prosthodontics and Crown & Bridge.
Apart from this, the Ministry has also renewed the permission for the MDS seats in Pediatric & Preventive Dentistry, Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology as 3 seats each.
The permission from the Union Government has been given for the academic year 2023-2024. Due to the Health Ministry permission, the total intake capacity of MDS courses at the Institute has increased to altogether 28 seats in 8 specialties.

While commenting on the matter, the Principal/ Dean of the Government Dental College and Hospital, Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Riyaz Farooq expressed his gratitude to the Administrative Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir.
Prof. Riyaz also informed Rising Kashmir that this is the second increase in MDS seats in the current year. This has made the total intake capacity of MDS seats as 28 seats in 8 specialties. He mentioned that the increase in seats will provide more opportunity to the BDS graduates of Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of India to pursue PG courses. Increase in seats will be beneficial for the candidates belonging to the EWS category as well.
He further mentioned that the increase in the seat capacity will also help to ensure better patient care delivery in the dental tertiary care institute of India.
