New Delhi: Upset and angry with the indefinite suspension of the National Eligibility Entrance Test Superspeciality (NEET-SS) 2025 counselling, doctors and superspeciality medical aspirants are now expressing their frustration online.

Even though the counselling process has remained on hold for several months now, the frustration of the aspirants was renewed when the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) issued a notice on June 06, 2026, and mentioned that the Round 2 counselling of NEET SS 2025 remains on hold due to the ongoing legal proceedings before the Supreme Court. The dispute before the Apex Court concerns more than 151 vacant super-speciality seats in Tamil Nadu.

MCC on June 06 said that it was examining the issue and exploring various legal remedies to determine the appropriate course of action in light of the communication received from the Government of Tamil Nadu and any further proceedings before the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that around 7,000 aspirants across the country were expecting the counselling process to resume from June 1, 2026, following discussions between a FAIMA delegation and concerned authorities.

However, with the MCC's decision to keep the counselling process on hold, candidates and doctors have now taken to social media platforms to express their frustration. These aspirants are facing immense mental and financial distress as despite qualifying the exam, and paying counselling fees of Rs 2 lakh, they still have no clarity regarding their future.

Amid this counselling deadlock, several doctors and aspirants have started suggesting alternative ways to expedite the counselling process. In an X post, a doctor pointed out how the aspirants left their jobs, relocated to other cities to get admitted to the superspeciality courses.

"Many NEET-SS 2025 candidates resigned from jobs, relocated cities, arranged accommodation, and put their careers on hold expecting timely admission. Continued delay is causing severe hardship. Allow provisional joining of Round-1 allotted seats with upgradation rights in subsequent rounds," the doctor wrote.

Demanding the release of the NEET-SS counselling schedule, Dr. Saransh Verma wrote in an X post, "Uncertainty At Peak 11 days since Supreme Court order & MCC is still silent. Qualified vs Non-qualified confusion at peak, yet no fresh schedule. Meanwhile, specialist doctors face dark reality: → No Joining till → Career delay → Severe mental stress & financial loss."

Blaming the authorities for the systemic failure, aspirants have started demanding immediate intervention from the Central Government. Urging Prime Minister Modi to take action, Dr. Gourab Chakraborty wrote, "26th, 27th Dec 2025 : NEET SS Exam 23rd Jan 2026 : NEET SS Results was announced. Today's date 8th June 2026 : NEET SS Round 2 Counselling is still on halt indefinitely. Thousands of doctors who were doing their jobs resigned to attend the round 1 Counselling in march 2026. Since then most of them are jobless. If this is not human rights violation what else can be? If this is not incompetence by concerned government authorities, what else can be?"

He also demanded the resignation of DGHS and Union Health Minister for their failure to tackle the crisis. "@DghsIndia has become the most incompetent body in regard to this counselling so far. There was no need to wait this long for round 2, if @dghs & @MoHFW_INDIA would have approved a round 3 with upgradation for all like last year. There was definitely lacking of appropriate actions by the concerned government bodies. I urge @DghsIndia prof dr sunita sharma maam & minister @JPNadda to resign from their post immediately for showing complete incompetence in conducting the neet ss 2025 counselling so far. @PMOIndia @narendramodi please give appropriate ditections," the X post added.

Dr Raviraj Rajendran blamed the Central Government and Tamil Nadu Goverment for this deadlock and demanding immediate commencement of counselling, he wrote in an X post, "@MoHFW_INDIA @JPNadda @CMOTamilnadu @arunraajkg @Udhaystalin What have you done!!?? Just for a political stack, is it right it stall the whole health care system of India Will you pay for the financial loses and lose of mental peace incurred by the future superspecialist Restart neet ss counselling asap !!"

According to MCC, the Supreme Court, in its order passed on May 29, directed the State of Tamil Nadu to inform the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) regarding the 151 vacant DM/M.Ch. seats that remained unfilled.

Following the order, MCC said it immediately wrote to the Tamil Nadu government asking that the vacant seats be reverted to DGHS/MCC so they could be included in the ongoing NEET-SS counselling process. However, MCC claimed that, despite the urgency of the matter, it initially received no response from the state government.

The committee further said that a demi-official letter was later sent by the MCC Chairman to the Principal Secretary (Health), Government of Tamil Nadu, seeking compliance with the Supreme Court directions and expeditious reversion of the seats.

MCC stated that the Tamil Nadu government, through its communication dated June 5, informed the committee that it had already filed a Review Petition before the Supreme Court on June 4.

"The matter has implications for the conduct and timely completion of NEET-SS Counselling 2026. MCC is, therefore, examining the issue and exploring various legal remedies to determine the appropriate course of action in light of the communication received from the Government of Tamil Nadu and any further proceedings before the Hon’ble Supreme Court," it said.
