FMGE to be held thrice a year- NBE announces additional exam on October 31
New Delhi: In a major change for foreign medical graduates, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has recently decided to conduct the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) three times a year.
The examination will continue to be held through a computer-based platform at centres across the country.
In addition, according to an official notice issued by the NBEMS, an additional FMGE has also been announced on October 31, 2026.

NBEMS has confirmed that an extra FMGE will be conducted on October 31, 2026. The examination that was earlier scheduled for January 9, 2027, will now be rescheduled to a later date in January or February 2027. The revised date will be notified separately in due course.

NBEMS has stated that detailed information regarding the additional examination will be provided through an Information Bulletin, which will be published on the official NBEMS website in due course.
Candidates have therefore been advised to keep a close watch on official NBEMS communications for details related to the application process, eligibility, examination schedule and other instructions.
Until now, FMGE was conducted twice every year. With the latest decision, the Board has shifted to a three-exam cycle annually, giving eligible candidates an additional opportunity to appear for the screening examination.
NBEMS has not provided further operational details in the present notice, apart from confirming the October 31 examination and the rescheduling of the January 2027 test.
