Hazaribagh Medical College gets permission for 100 MBBS Seats
Ranchi: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants in Jharkhand, the State Government has given permission to Hazaribagh based Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital for admitting MBBS students in 100 medical seats.
The State has renewed the permission to the medical college on the recommendation of the erstwhile Medical Council of India (MCI), now National Medical Commission (NMC), adds Daily Pioneer.
After visiting the college and the hospital, the NMC team were 80 per cent satisfied with the standard of education in the medical college and also the infrastructure available at the medical college.
With this, the medical college is all set to admit the third batch of students in the 100 MBBS seats, among which 85% seats shall be filled from the students from the State and 15% seats shall be filled from the All India Quota students.
Last year, Medical Dialogues had reported that after long wait, NMC had finally given its permission for MBBS courses at state-run medical colleges in Palamu and Hazaribagh.
Previously, NMC had stalled MBBS admission at Palamu, Dumka, and Hazaribagh medical colleges in Jharkhand as the Commission had highlighted the deficit of faculty members, absence of libraries, and laboratory equipment.
Back in 2020 as well, these three medical colleges were barred by NMC for admitting students in the MBBS course and back then the Chief Minister Hemant Soren had written to NMC and requested the apex medical body to reconsider its decision. However, the commission hadn't budged and didn't allow fresh admission in the last session.

Finally, NMC gave its nod for these three medical colleges last year. As per the latest media report by Daily Pioneer, already the first and second batch of students are studying in the medical college. The Principal of the medical college Dr. SK Singh has informed the daily that on the recommendation of NMC, now the State has given its renewed the permission to the medical college for admitting students in 100 MBBS seats.
This comes after NMC team inspected the college and expressed its satisfaction with the infrastructure and educational standard offered in the medical college. However, the Commission had suggested for installing high resolution cameras in the hospital campus.
Dr. Singh also informed the daily that this is the first time that the college is planning for online classes for the students. Speaking about this, he further said that after the implementation of this system, the students and employees will be in the hospital on a regular basis and absence of doctors will get reduced resulting in improved medical services.
Besides, complying with the NMC suggestion, the college is going to install 128 high resolution cameras in the hospital for security purpose, informed Dr. Singh. This will prove to be effective in putting a stop to theft and other illegal activities in the hospital campus. Apart from this, the college administration has further decided to take strict action against anti- social elements.
