How many MBBS, BDS, MD, MS seats available under AIQ? Health Minister gives breakup in Parliament

New Delhi: While responding to a query raised regarding the availability of medical seats under the All India Quota, the Union Minister of State for Health, Dr Anupriya Patel, provided the details of MBBS, BDS seats available under the All India Quota in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), BHU, JIPMER, etc.

Further, she has also provided the data regarding the PG seats available under All India Quota till Round 1 of PG Counselling 2025, PG seats under BHU, DU/IP, 100% Deemed Universities, and AFMS Colleges.

MBBS seats:

According to the data provided by the Minister, in the year 2025, 2257 AIQ MBBS seats are available at AIIMS, 100 AIQ MBBS seats available in BHU, 179 AIQ MBBS seats are available under JIPMER Open seat and 64 AIQ seats available under JIPMER Internal seats.

Apart from these, 764 MBBS seats under All India Quota in 85% State Quota DU/IP in 2025, altogether 8015 AIQ MBBS seats are the State/contributed seats this year, and 446 MBBS seats are available under ESIC Quota in 2025.

PG Medical Seats:

The data further revealed that upto Round 1 of PG Counselling 2025, 12678 PG seats are available under the All India Quota, 94 MD/MS seats are available at BHU, 601 PG seats are available in 2025 under DU/IP, and 6372 MD/MS seats are available under 100% Deemed Universities.

BDS Seats:

Regarding the BDS seats, the data revealed that in the year 2025, 63 BDS seats are available under All India Quota, 50 BDS seats are available under All India Quota in Jamia (BDS), 95 BDS seats are available under All India Quota in 85% State Quota DU/IP, 492 BDS seats are available in All India Quota State Contributed Seats, and 25 BDS seats are available under ESIC Quota.

The Union Minister provided these details while responding to the queries raised by Parliament member Shri P. Wilson, who sought the details of year-wise total number of medical seats available under the State quota (SQ) and the All India Quota (AIQ) since 2007, the total seats earmarked for State surrendered seats and centrally surrendered seats under AIQ for various reserved categories, including OBC (27 percent), since 2007, year-wise and State-wise breakup of seats allocated to OBC candidates since implementation of the order etc. He also questioned the Ministry about when the reservation for OBC candidates in the State-surrendered seats under the AIQ has been implemented pursuant to the order of Supreme Court.

In response, the Minister informed, "The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) conducts the counselling for seats of undergraduate (UG/MBBS) and postgraduate (PG) medical courses. Furthermore, Counselling for UG covers 15% All India quota seats; 100% seats of Central Institutes/ Universities, Deemed Universities; 100% seats in all the Institutes of National Importance (INI). Counselling for PG courses covers 50% All India Quota seats, 100% seats of Central Institutes/Universities and Deemed Universities. Counselling for the State quota seats in UG and PG medical courses is conducted by the respective State Governments. The Government of India implemented 27% OBC (non-creamy layer) reservation in 15% UG and 50% PG All India Quota seats w.e.f. Academic session 2021- 22."

She also provided the details of the total number of medical seats available under All India Quota (AIQ), including OBCs in UG and PG courses- which is as follows:

As per the data, in the year 2025, altogether 2257 AIQ MBBS seats are available at AIIMS- including 918 seats under the General category, 337 seats under the SC category, 169 seats under the ST category, 608 seats under the OBC category, and 225 seats under the EWS category.

The data revealed that 100 MBBS and 63 BDS seats are available under AIQ in BHU. Among the 100 MBBS seats, 40 seats are available under General Category, 15 seats are available under the SC category, 8 seats under the ST category, 27 seats under the OBC category, and 10 seats under the EWS category.

Among the 63 BDS seats, 25 seats are available under the General category, 10 seats under the SC category, 5 seats under the ST category, 17 seats under the OBC category, and 6 seats underthe EWS category.

The data revealed that 50 BDS seats are available under All India Quota in Jamia (BDS)- including 21 Open seat quota, 4 Muslim OBC quota, 1 Muslim ST quota, 15 Muslim Quota, 5 Muslim Women Quota, 2 Non-Resident Indian (Jamia) quota, and 2 Jamia Internal Quota.

UG MBBS/BDS SEATS UNDER ALL INDIA QUOTA IN 85% STATE QUOTA DU/IP YEAR 2020-2025.

Apart from these, 764 MBBS seats and 95 BDS seats are available in 2025 under All India Quota in 85% State Quota DU/IP. The total number of MBBS seats includes 336 General, 115 SC, 58 ST, 206 OBC, and 49 EWS quota seats. Among the 95 BDS seats, 40 seats are available under General category, 14 seats are available under SC category, 7 seats are available under ST category, 25 seats are available under OBC category, and 9 seats are available under the EWS category.

According to the data, altogether 8015 AIQ MBBS and 492 AIQ BDS seats are the State/contributed seats this year. The total 8015 MBBS seats include 3254 General, 2160 SC, 799 ST, 1202 OBC, and 600 EWS quota seats. 492 BDS seats include 201 General, 133 SC, 48 ST, 73 OBC, and 37 EWS quota seats.

The data revealed that 446 MBBS and 25 BDS seats are available under ESIC Quota in 2025. Among the 446 MBBS seats 181 seats are available under the General Category, 66 seats are available under SC category, 33 seats are available under ST category, 121 seats are available under OBC category, and 45 seats are available under the EWS category. The total number of 25 BDS seats include 11 General, 04 SC, 02 ST, 08 OBC and 03 EWS quota seats.
