Jharkhand to add 220 MBBS, 211 PG seats in 6 medical colleges
Ranchi: With an aim to expand medical education, the Jharkhand government has initiated the process to increase 220 MBBS and 211 postgraduate seats across six state-run medical colleges from the next academic session.
Along with this, the process to fill vacant teaching posts in medical colleges will also take place in five government medical colleges in the state (excluding RIMS).
For this, 180 Assistant Professors will be recruited. Out of these, 155 posts are regular, and 25 are backlog vacancies. These appointments will be made across 24 departments, including key areas such as Medicine, Surgery, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Pediatrics.
As per Live Hindustan media report, the recruitment process will be carried out in accordance with the Jharkhand Medical Education Service Rules, 2018 (amended in 2021), and the latest standards of the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Alongside this, the state has also launched a major recruitment drive to address the shortage of doctors in government hospitals. A total of 1,277 doctors will be appointed, including 942 medical teachers.
In this regard, the Personnel Department has already sent a requisition to the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) to initiate the recruitment process based on the health department's direction.
To strengthen super-specialty departments, 96 super-specialist doctors will be recruited in fields such as Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Urology, and Oncology.
Further, 666 specialist doctors will be appointed in district and sub-divisional hospitals to improve healthcare access for the general public. Of these, 506 posts are regular, while 160 are backlog vacancies. Among these 666 posts, the highest number of vacancies are for physicians (226) and paediatricians (224). Additionally, 335 medical officers will also be recruited.
After the recruitment of these doctors, the availability of healthcare services in the state is expected to improve, and the overall medical service system will be strengthened.
