Mandatory Yoga for MBBS: NMC releases Common Yoga Protocol to be followed by all
New Delhi: Referring to the 10 days mandatory Yoga training in the new MBBS Curriculum, the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has informed about the common YOGA protocol.
Issuing a circular in this regard, the Apex Medical Education Regulatory Body NMC has informed that such a common YOGA protocol is being developed by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under Ministry of AYUSH with an aim to maintain uniformity of the course.
Apart from this, UGMEB has also attached the links for accessing the video resources to follow the common YOGA protocol.
"New Competency Based Medical Education for Undergraduate Course Curriculum has been implemented by National Medical Commission from the academic session 2021-22 vide circular dated 31.03.2022, wherein YOGA Training has been introduced during foundation course for maximum of 1 hours every day for a period of 10 days beginning from 12th June every year to be culminated on International YOGA Day i.e. 21st June, in all medical colleges across the Country," NMC mentioned in the circular dated April 29, 2022.
"In order to maintain symmetry in YOGA training programme at all medical colleges in India, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga under Ministry of AYUSH has developed common YOGA protocol, The booklets and leaflets regarding common yoga protocol are attached herewith," it added.

"With the above information, all State Governments/UTs, Universities and medical colleges/institutes are requested to initiate immediate action with regard to introduction of YOGA Training Programme for Undergraduate Course Curriculum from the current batch of MBBS students i.e. 2021-22, admitted in the month Feb-March 2022, admitted in the month Feb-March 2022," further read the NMC circular.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the new CBME curriculum for MBBS course advocated for the initiation of Yoga training during the foundation course - 1 hour, preferably in the morning in orientation week.
The circular had mentioned, "Yoga practices shall be for maximum 1 hour every day during the period of 10 days beginning from 12th June every year to be culminated on International Yoga day, i.e. 21st June, to be celebrated in all medical schools across the country. These may be practiced by all batches of MBBS. Yoga module will be made available to all colleges by UGMEB- NMC. However colleges may adopt their own modules. Yoga unit may be inducted under PMR department or any other department of all colleges at their discretion."
