MBBS, BSc Nursing in Puducherry: Check out fee structure for this academic year

Puducherry: In a recent notification, the Centralized Admission Committee (CENTAC) has released Fee Structure for NEET candidates who will take admission this year in MBBS in Puducherry medical colleges. Besides, the counselling body has also released the fee structure for B.Sc Nursing courses.

The revised fee structure for UG medical and nursing Courses for the year 2021-22 has been decided by the Fee Committee under the Chairmanship of Hon'ble Justice N. Authinathan, Judge (Retd.) Hon'ble High Court of Madras.

"The fee structure prescribed above will take effect from the academic year 2019-20 till 2021-2022 and the same fee alone should be paid by the students for the three academic years," mentioned the notification.

As per the new fee structure, a student pursuing an MBBS course in the Government quota seats in Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences and Sri Manakula Vinayagar College & Hospital, Puducherry will have to pay a total amount of Rs 3,80,000.

On the other hand, the fees for pursuing B.Sc Nursing courses at College of Nursing East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, AG Padmavathi College of Nursing, RAAK Nursing and Paramedical College would have been fixed at Rs 42,000.

The previous fees had been fixed by the Committee chaired by Hon'ble Justice S. Rajeswaran (Retd.) and it was valid for three years i.e. 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19.

Previously, the Fees for the MBBS course at Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences was Rs 3,35,000 per year, whereas students had to pay Rs 3,13,000 for pursuing medical education at Sri Manakula Vinayaga Medical College and Hospital. On the other hand, the fees for Nursing were Rs 37,000 per year at the College of Nursing, East Coast Institute of Medical Sciences, AG Padmavathi College of Nursing, Puducherry, and RAAK Nursing and Paramedical College, Puducherry.

"The fee structure prescribed above will take effect from the academic year 2019-20 till 2021-2022 and the same fee alone should be paid by the students for the three academic years. This fee is an all inclusive of annual fee excluding Transport fees," mentioned the notification released recently on the official website of CENTAC.

"In addition to the above fee fixed by the committee for three academic years, the educational institutions are permitted to collect a refundable one time caution deposit not exceeding Rs.10,000/- per student at the time of admission which should be refunded to the students at the time of students leaving the Institutions by way of account payee by crossed cheque/ NEFT/ ECS to their respective accounts," it further added.

Giving further details regarding the hostel fees that the students have to pay, the notification stated, "After detailed discussion, the Committee in its meeting held on 12.06.2019 also decided that the quantum of Hostel fees that can be charged by the Medical Colleges from the students shall not exceed Rs.75,000/- (Seventy Five Thousand only) for Non-AC accommodation and shall not exceed Rs.1,25,000/- (Rupees One lakh and twenty thousand only) per annum in the case of AC accommodation, excluding food expense."

However, the notification, along with revising the fee structure, also had mentioned the conditions that were required to be followed.

"4. Accordingly, the Hon'ble Lieutant Governor of Puducherry is pleased to approve the revised fee structure at para (3) above for admission of students in MBBS/ B.Sc. (Nursing) courses in unaided Private Professional Educational Institutions functioning in this Union Territory of Puducherry for the years 2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022, subject to the Following conditions:

i. The fee structure prescribed above shall be applicable for the three Academic Years 2019-2020, 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 respectively.

ii. This fee is an all-inclusive annual fee including various fees like admission fee, Tuition fee, Special fee, Laboratory/ Computer/ Maintenance and Amenities fee, Extracurricular activities fee and the other recurring expenditure.

iii. The above fee does not include, Transport and the Mess charges, which shall be on 'actual' basis only.

iv. The Educational Institutions are not entitled to collect any kind of fees under any guise except the fees fixed by the Committee. The Educational Institutions should receive no cash from the students; and Demand Draft, Cheque, Bank Pay Order, Digital transactions likes RTGS, NEFT etc. alone are permissible for payment of fees. The management shall issue proper and necessary receipts for all the payments received by them. If any other amounts are charged under any other head or guise, e.g. donations, etc., the same would amount to charging of capitation fee.

v. It is further made very clear that the educational institutions should receive the fee for the concerned academic year only and advance payment for the future academic years are strictly prohibited. If the academic period's duration is just six months, half of the fee fixed for the academic year alone should be received. If they already collected any fees in violation of the above condition, the excess amount so collected should be refunded to the students immediately.

vi. Any deviations of this order will entail serious penal consequences, withdrawal of approval accorded by the Medical Council of India, cancellation of the Essentiality Certificate issued by the Government of Puducherry and disaffiliation by the concerned University as well as imposition of hefty fine as penalty."
