1078 Seats Are Left Vacant For MBBS, BDS Courses : DME Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu: This academic year, 1078 seats are left vacant for MBBS and BDS courses in Tamil Nadu. The Director of Medical Education (DME Tamil Nadu) announced the tentative vacancy position.
Management quota has the highest number of seats (603) vacant, followed by government quota (466 seats) and government quota 7.5% (9 seats).

Recently the mop-up round for MBBS and BDS admission was concluded. The allotted candidates were asked to report between 15.12.2022 – 17.12.2022. For government Quota, 7.5% - A candidate not holding any MBBS/BDS seats under the All India Quota and State Quota were allowed to participate in State Quota mop-up counseling. For government and management quota - A candidate not holding any MBBS/BDS seats under All India Quota and State Quota (Government / Management/ NRI) were allowed to participate in State Quota mop-up counseling.
Eligibility for NEET UG counseling –
1. Indian nationals can apply for Tamil Nadu MBBS/BDS admission.
2. Non-residents of India (NRI) or Persons of Indian origin (PIO) are eligible for management/NRI quota seats.
3. Candidates 17 years or above are eligible as of 31st December 2022.
4. Candidates must pass class 12 with a minimum of 50% marks for the general category for Tamil Nadu MBBS 2022 admission. Students from SC/ST/OBC and PH categories need 40% and 45% marks in the class 12 examination.
5. Candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects in class 12.
The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is being conducted by NTA for admission to undergraduate medical education, with the approval of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and MHRD. No other test is valid for admission to UG courses. This test is conducted once a year.
The Department of Medical Education plays a pivotal role in developing medical and para-medical personnel to cater to the state's health needs. The department also has a role to play in establishing and maintaining well-equipped teaching institutions, which are the premier referral centers with state-of-the-art equipment and technology. Research is another area of activity for the Medical Education Department.
