1,396 MBBS, 3,017 PG seats in Delhi Medical Colleges: Health Minister tells Parliament
New Delhi: There are a total of 1,396 MBBS seats and 3,017 postgraduate medical seats available in Delhi, the Union Minister of State for Health, Smt Anupriya Patel, informed the Lok Sabha recently.
Queries related to the seat matrix in Delhi were raised by Parliament member Shri Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, who sought to know the total number of medical seats available in the medical colleges in Delhi. Further, Shri Bidhuri also asked whether the Government has conducted any study to find out the required number of medical seats in Delhi, and also asked for the details regarding the number of streams offered in the medical colleges and the number of seats available for each of the streams in those colleges in Delhi.
In response, Minister Patel informed, "As informed by the National Medical Commission (NMC), there are a total of 1396 MBBS seats in medical colleges in Delhi for the Academic Year 2025-26. Further, as of now, there are a total of 3,017 Post Graduate (PG) Seats in medical colleges in Delhi."
She further provided the details regarding the number of course-wise (Broad Specialty and Super-Specialty) seats in Delhi in Annexure format.
According to the data provided by the Health Ministry, Delhi has altogether 1360 MD/MS Seats with most seats available in specialities including MD Paediatrics (134), MD General Medicine (144), MD Anaesthesiology (182), MS General Surgery (114), MS Obstetrics and Gynecology (111), MD Pathology (77), MD Microbiology (56), MS ENT (34), MD Physiology (28), MD Radiology (86), MD Psychiatry (36), MD Biochemistry (41), MD Pharmacology (22), MD Forensic Medicine (25), MD DVL (21), MS Orthopaedics (68), MD Community Medicine (42), and MD Anatomy (28).

(i) The seat figures do not include any positions sanctioned under Broad Specialty or Super Specialty programs AIIMS or other Institutes of National Importance (INIs).
(ii) The data represent the provisional seat availability for annual intake for the academic year 2025–26. These numbers are based on the fulfillment of regulatory requirements and other applicable parameters at the time of compilation.
(iii) Course-wise and stream-wise seat availability in medical colleges across Delhi is subject to revision. Final numbers may change depending on pending processing of Super Specialty (SS) applications, outcomes of First and Second Appeals and any further regulatory approvals or modifications.

The Health Ministry's data revealed that there are also 1029 DNB Broad Speciality, 466 DrNB Super Speciality, 106 FNB Fellowship, and 89 Post MBBS Diploma (Broad Specialty) seats.
Among the DNB Broad Speciality seats, the maximum number of seats are available in Anaesthesiology (151), General Medicine (112), General Surgery (76), Obstetrics and Gynaecology (113), Paediatrics (102), Pathology (47), Radiation Oncology (27), Radio Diagnosis (73), Respiratory Medicine (57) etc.
The maximum number of DrNB Super Specialities are available in Cardiology (48), Critical Care Medicine (57), Medical Gastroenterology (46), Medical Oncology (35), Nephrology (36), Neurology (24), Cardiac Anaesthesia (23), Urology (33), Surgical Oncology (22), and Surgical Gastroenterology (18).
The data revealed that the maximum number of Post MBBS Diploma seats are available in Obstetrics and Gynecology (27), Paediatrics (29), Anaesthesiology (14), Radio Diagnosis (10) etc. The maximum number of FNB Fellowship seats are available in Minimal Access Surgery (13), Reproductive Medicine (9), Spine Surgery (9), Interventional Cardiology (8), Head & Neck Oncology (7), Arthroplasty (7) etc.
