64 MBBS admissions cancelled in UP over fake freedom fighter quota certificates

MBBS Admission Scam
Uttar Pradesh- Authorities have uncovered widespread misuse of the two per cent freedom fighter quota in MBBS admissions in Uttar Pradesh. Out of the 88 reserved seats, 79 were allotted, and 71 students reportedly took admission in medical colleges under this quota.
The two per cent freedom fighter quota reserves 88 MBBS seats out of 4,442 in Uttar Pradesh’s medical colleges as a recognition of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and their families.
The matter came to light when a certificate found in Firozabad was found to be fake, following which an intensive investigation was conducted in 10 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Fake certificates were found in many districts, including Meerut, Saharanpur, Ballia, Bhadohi and Ghazipur, exposing a large network of fraud.
The investigation revealed that 64 candidates had obtained admissions on the basis of fake freedom fighter dependent certificates, due to which their admissions were cancelled and FIRs were lodged. This has raised serious questions about the fairness of the reservation process and the transparency of medical admissions in the state.
According to Hindustan Times report, Directorate of Medical Education (DME) Director General Kinjal Singh has confirmed that all admissions secured through fake certificates have been cancelled and urged district magistrates to file FIRs against those involved. Meanwhile, Officials are also reviewing NEET UG 2024 admissions to identify similar irregularities.
“Admission on a total 64 seats has been cancelled as their certificates were found fake. These seats will be included in the next round of counselling while DMs have been written to file FIR in connection with the fake certificates and further investigation may be done,” said Kinjal Singh, director general medical education (DGME), Uttar Pradesh.
“Since we allot seats on the basis of the certificates issued by administration of the respective districts, we have informed DMs for the FIR,” she added.
“According to the information received till now a total of 64 certificates have been found fake by the DMs,” the DGME said.
The issue was investigated by Agra District Magistrate Bhanu Chandra Goswami, who described the incident as "a systematic racket involving fake documents".
