AIIMS begins registrations for INI SS July 2026 session, check seat position, eligibility criteria, all admission details here

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has released the detailed prospectus and schedule for the INI SS July 2026 session, announcing that online registration process, with the last date set for April 13, 2026.
The entrance examination for admission to DM/M.Ch. super-speciality courses across premier institutes, including AIIMS and other Institutes of National Importance, is scheduled to be conducted in computer-based mode on April 25, 2026, while the academic session is set to begin from July 1, 2026.
All the concerned candidates are advised to take note of the schedule, seat position as well as eligibility criteria as mentioned below along with other details.

a) Departmental Assessment will be conducted in an online mode by video- conferencing only.
b) Candidate must secure 50 percent (%) or more marks in Stage-I [as per the decision of the meeting of the 116th Academic Committee (itemNo.AC/116/10 dated 06.03.2018)].
c) Candidate must have applied in online registration for AIIMS/PGIMER Chandigarh seats in respective specialty/course.
d) Candidate must be eligible as per eligibility criteria of AIIMS/PGIMER Chandigarh.
e) Out of the candidates who fulfill above criteria, candidates- 3(three) times the number of seats in respective category advertised for AIIMS/PGIMER Chandigarh Combined OR 2(two) times the total number of seats in respective category in AIIMS/PGIMER Chandigarh & other INIs whichever is higher or as decided by the competent authority at the time of declaration of result will be called for departmental assessment in online mode by video-conferencing only (carrying 20 marks) related to sub-specialty/systems/component of the specialty/course for which the candidate has applied in respective department at AIIMS, New Delhi.
f) To qualify for AIIMS/PGIMER Chandigarh Seat allocation a candidate must obtain 50 percent (%) or more marks in Stage-I & Stage-II combined.
g) In case a candidate gets marks more than 50 percent (%) in Stage-I but less than 50 percent (%) marks in Stage I & II combined, he/she will not be treated as qualified for AIIMS/PGIMER Chandigarh Seats.
h) Candidates called for departmental assessment (Stage – II) and remain absent in Stage –II, he/she will not be treated as qualified for AIIMS/PGIMER Chandigarh Seats.
Other Instructions
General-
a. Any candidate applying for any course will be deemed to have read the information brochure/prospectus, notices published on the website.
b. In case of any ambiguity in interpretation of any of the instructions/ terms/ rules/criteria regarding the determination of eligibility/conduct of examinations/ registration of candidates/ information contained herein, the matter will be decided at the discretion of the Director, AIIMS, New Delhi and same shall be final and binding in nature.
c. Any wrong information provided by the candidate on same may invite disciplinary action including debarment from future examination.
d. AIIMS, New Delhi reserves its right to alter, amend, modify or apply any or some of the instructions/guidelines contained in this information brochure.
e. Candidature is liable to be cancelled in case of any discrepancy detected at any stage regarding eligibility even after grant of admission
Sponsored Candidate-
a. Sponsorship Certificate: It is mandatory to upload valid “Sponsorship certificate “on or before last date of submission as mentioned in Important Dates Section of PART-A. Please note that candidates have to submit original sponsorship certificate at the time of admission, failing which their candidature will be cancelled.
b. The regular/permanent candidate concerned shall be employee of the deputing/ sponsoring authority and should have been working for three years (on or before 31st January/31st July for January/ July sessions for All AIIMS/ PGIMER, Chandigarh/ NIMHANS, Bengaluru and candidate applying for JIPMER Puducherry are required three-year service as mentioned in Prospectus Part-B of respective institute. (This clause not required for SCTIMST).
c. Sponsored Candidates Criteria for PGIMER, Chandigarh: - However, sponsored category candidates, applying at PGIMER, Chandigarh must also fulfill Other Eligibility Conditions and Requirements for admissions i.e. “That the candidate concerned shall be a regular/permanent employee of the deputing/sponsoring authority and should have been continually working for three years (on or before 30th June/31st December for July & January session respectively” of PGIMER, Prospectus Part-B Clause 3.1. (B).1. (a)]
SPONSORED CANDIDATES CRITERIA FOR SCTIMST: -
Candidates will be considered as “sponsored” only when they are financially supported by the Government, Governmental agencies or Universities.
• For MD/DM/M.Ch. Programs: The selection of the candidates for the course is through the counseling based on the rank list of the entrance examination of the INI-SS (Institutes of national Importance-Super specialty) or INI-CET (Institutes of national Importance-Common Entrance Test) conducted by the AIIMS, New Delhi and further verification of certificates and other credentials/documents by SCTIMST.
Application must be through proper channel and submit a “No Objection Certificate” from their employer along with their application forms. Government orders regarding sponsorship conditions with financial support must be submitted at the time of admission. The decision of the Institute regarding the eligibility of sponsorship shall be final.
d. All columns available in sponsorship certificate should be duly filled. If any columns not pertain to candidate should be mandatory strike out(X).
e. For Details see the Performa for Sponsorship certificate as applicable for different Institutes.
f. In case it is found that an applicant, who does not fulfill the eligibility qualification /criteria, has provided false information then applicant’s candidature will be cancelled.
Foreign National-
i. Candidates who are NOT citizens of India (by birth or naturalized) (but not OCI/PIO candidates) shall be considered as FOREIGN NATIONALS.
ii. Foreign nationals are required to fill in the prescribed online application form indicating the choice of subject (only one subject) for admission to Post graduate courses leading to award of DM/M.Ch. Entrance Examination.
iii. The foreign nationals are required to send their Registration Slip of Online application through Diplomatic Channel. They are also required to appear in the Competitive Entrance Examination along with other candidates. The No Objection Certificate (NOC) obtained from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India, should be submitted to the Examination Section on or before date(s) mentioned in Important Dates Section of Prospectus Part-A.
Kindly note that no objection certificate obtained solely from Ministry of External Affairs is not considered as valid NOC for INI-SS.
iv. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI):
Eligibility of OCI/PIO candidates will be based on the decision of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition (Civil) 891/2021dated February 03, 2023.
1. Candidates born before 04.03.2021 and who have secured the OCI Card Before 04.03.2021 shall be considered INDIAN NATIONALS and will be eligible ONLY for open category (unreserved) seats for INDIAN NATIONALS. They will not be eligible for consideration for seats for Foreign Nationals.
2. OCI/PIO card holders who are not to be considered as India Nationals based on the decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Writ Petition (Civil) 891 / 2021 dated February 03.2023 shall be considered as FOREIGN NATIONALS. They will not be eligible for consideration of seats for Indian Nationals.
OCI candidates are not required to obtain NOC (No Objection Certificate), however must upload the scanned copy of OCI card on or before date(s) mentioned in Important Dates Section of Prospectus Part-A. The earliest issued, valid OCI card must be uploaded on the portal. Any attempt at hiding a valid, older OCI card or uploading only a newer card will be considered as providing false information and the candidature may be cancelled.
v. The foreign nationals will be considered against the seats advertised for DM/M.Ch. Entrance Examination courses as per rules applicable at respective participating Institute. They should be registered with NMC before they will be allowed to join the said course, if they are selected for the same.
vi. Seats are not reserved in any discipline for foreign nationals (except the bilateral agreement between the Government of India and any other nation).
vii. Nominations/No objection for the candidate should reach the Examination Section before the date as specified under "IMPORTANT DATE AT A GLANCE". In case of non-receipt of the nominations/clearance/no objection from the concerned Ministry by due date, their candidature will not be considered.
viii. No emoluments will be paid by AIIMS to the Foreign National candidates. Rules at respective INI shall be applicable as per prospectus part B in this regard.
Submission of Application by Candidates who are employed
The Institute does not have any objection if the candidates in employment apply for the above postgraduate course (except candidates for sponsored candidates for all courses submit their applications direct i.e. they are not required to submit their applications through proper channel). However, all such candidates should inform their employer in writing that they are applying for this Entrance Examination. They should also sign the Undertaking in the downloaded copy of Registration Slip that they have informed their employer about the submission of the application to AIIMS. If any communication is received from their department/office with holding permission to the candidate’s appearing at the entrance examination/admission to the course, the candidature/admission of the candidate will be cancelled, and no further correspondence in this regard will be entertained.
(Sponsored candidates are required to route their Registration Slip through proper channel).

Phase I- Application Process
All information as well as access to process related to INI-SS will be done through its online portal. The portal for INI-SS can be accessed from Website of aiims >>Academic Course Tab>>and clicking on INI-SS. The applicants are requested to visit the site frequently to keep themselves updated with latest information. The access and different components of application process will be enabled/disabled as per the dates specified in the Important Dates Tab.
Validity of Category (OBC/EWS/PWBD) Certificate
Uploading of valid Certificate/Card: Must Upload OBC (NCL)/EWS Certificate from 01.04.2026 to 13.04.2026. The OBC (-NCL)/EWS certificates should have been issued between period as follows:
a) Date(s) of valid OBC (NCL) certificate: Candidates applying under OBC category must produce the valid caste certificate in the format provided by the DoP&T vide O.M No. 36036/2/2013-Estt. (Res.) dated 30.05.2014 and further clarification issued by DoP&T OM No. 36011/1/12-Estt.(Res.) dated 14.03.2016. The certificate must mention the non-creamy layer status of the applicant (Non-creamy layer status issued by an authority mentioned in DOPT Office Memorandum no. 36012/22/93-Estt. (SCT) dated 15.11.1993). The OBC applicants who belong to the ‘Non-Creamy Layer’ and whose caste appears in the Central List of the OBCs (notified by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on the recommendations of the National Commission for Backward Classes available at the website htttp://ncbc.nic.in, shall be eligible to be considered under the OBC category (Validity period of OBC Certificate in respect of non-creamy layer status of the applicants as per DOPT Office Memorandum No. 36036/2/2013-Estt. (Res-I) dated 31 March 2016). The validity of the non-creamy layer certificate shall be issued from 01st April, 2025 to 31st March, 2026 valid for financial year 2025-2026 and on the basis of financial year 2024-2025 or non-creamy layer certificate shall be issued from 01st April, 2026 to 13rd April, 2026 (i.e. closing date of application) valid for financial year 2026-2027 and on the basis of financial year 2025-2026.
• If the applicant does not have the OBC non-creamy layer certificate valid for the financial year 2025-2026 or 2026-2027 at the time of registration, the applicant must upload the previously issued (older) OBC non-creamy layer certificate with the acknowledgement slip of the OBC non-creamy layer certificate application for renewal. However, at the time when asked to submit/upload the valid certificate, the applicant must produce the applicable certificate valid for financial year 2025-2026 or 2026-2027 within the date as mentioned above. This additional certificate (if any) must have a reference of his/her already issued original caste certificate. The candidate uploading OBC certificate valid for respective state not for Central Government will be rejected irrespective of applied for renewal.
b) Date(s) of valid EWS certificate: The vacancies advertised under EWS Category are as per the instructions issued by DoPT, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pension, Govt. of India, vide OM. No. 36039/1/2019-Estt (Res), dated 31.01.2019. Application under EWS category will be considered subject to submission of Income and Assets certificate on a prescribed format issued by the competent authority and subject to verification of genuineness of the certificate by the issuing authority. In pursuance to DoP&T OM No. 36039/1/2019-Estt (Res), dated 31.01.2019, a EWS certificate issued in prescribed format for employment in Central Government on the basis of income of financial year 2024-2025 issued from 01.04.2025 to 31.03.2026 valid for the financial year 2025-2026 or on the basis of income of financial year 2025-2026 issued from 01.04.2026 to 13.04.2026 (i.e. closing date of application) valid for the financial year 2026-2027 will be considered valid.
Eligibility for Scribe and/or compensatory time:
1. The persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) defined under section 2(r) of the RPWD Act, 2016.
A. Persons with Benchmark Disabilities in the categories of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected –BA) and cerebral palsy will be provided with the facility of a scribe if desired by the person against self-under taking as per Appendix A Part A-1.
B. The PwBD candidates in the category of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected- BA) and cerebral palsy are allowed Compensatory Time of twenty minutes per hour of the examination if desired by the person against self-under taking as per Appendix A PartA-1.
C. In the case of other categories of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities as defined under section 2(r) of the RPWD Act, 2016, the facility of scribe / Compensatory time will be allowed to such applicants on the production of a certificate to the effect that he person concerned
Has physical limitation in to write, and scribe is essential to write the examination on his behalf from the Chief Medical Officer/Civil Surgeon/Medical Superintendent of a Government Health Care institution as per the prescribed proforma (Appendix A Both part A-1 and A-2).
2. The persons with specified disabilities covered under the definition of section 2(s) of the RPWD Act, 2016 but not covered under the definition of section 2 (r) of the said Act, i.e. persons having less than 40% disability and having difficulty in writing.
A. In the case of those with less than Benchmark disabilities as defined under section 2(r) of the RPWD Act, 2016, the facility of scribe and or / Compensatory time shall be granted solely to those having difficulty in writing subject to the production of a certificate to the effect that the person concerned has physical limitation to write and that scribe is essential to write examination on his/her behalf from the competent medical authority of a Government Health Care institution as per prescribed Performa (Appendix A Both part A1 andA-3).
Note:-
1. All required certificates must be submitted within due dates as specified in the Important Dates section of this document, failing which no facilities will be provided on the day of examination.
2. The applicants have the discretion of opting for his/her scribe or requesting the Examination Section for the same and should indicate their choice at the time of Completion of the Application for the Test.
3. In case the applicant opts for his/her own scribe, and then additional information related to the scribe will be sought from the applicant before the examination. The qualification of the scribe provided by the Examination Section and owns scribe will be one step below the minimum qualification criteria of the Test (i.e. one step below MBBS/ equivalent medical degree). However, the qualification of the scribe will always be matriculated or above. If the applicant has opted for his/her own scribe and does not bring own scribe on the day of the examination, then it will not be possible for AIIMS to arrange a new scribe.
4. If the applicant has opted for his/her own scribe, the Remuneration/Honorarium/TA will be the applicant’s sole responsibility.
5. The Scribe can render only assistance to the candidate, i.e., reading instructions, test paper and mouse clicks, if the candidate is not able to do so. Explanation/Interpretation of question paper is strictly prohibited and may result in cancellation of the candidature.
6. All persons eligible for scribe and/or compensatory as described above shall be provided compensatory time of not less than 20 minutes per hour of examination. In case the examination is less than an hour, the duration of compensatory time should be allowed on a pro-rata basis. Compensatory time should not be less than 5 minutes and should be in multiple of 5.
Phase II- Declaration of Result
Result will be declared based on performance of candidate in examination for INI-SS as per scheme of examination on the website www.aiimsexams.ac.in
Phase III- Seat allocation of INI-SS
Seat allocation will be done in online based on both merit list (CML/AML) as per following procedure:-
a) Results & Procedure of seat allocation in detail will be declared on the website www.aiimsexams.ac.in
b) Please see scheme of examination for qualifying criteria.
c) Institute wise synchronized allocation of seats will be carried on based on over all rank in CML/AML and choices in order of preference as filled by the candidate.
d) Single Best choice available seat at merit rank will be allocated in INIs on the basis of both Merit List (1) Common Merit List (CML); (2) AIIMS Merit List (AML).
e) All eligible candidate will be allowed to fill online choices of INI and their order of preferences subject to eligibility as per both merit list after declaration of results and seat will be allocated as per following method:
i. Seat allocation will be in order of overall rank in respective merit list (CML/AML).
ii. Where a candidate is eligible in CML only, he/she will be allocated seat of INI other than AIIMS & PGIMER Chandigarh as available at his rank in order of preference filled during online choice.
iii. Where a candidate is eligible in CML and AML both, he/she will be temporarily allocated the best available choice of respective INI other than AIIMS & PGIMER Chandigarh as per merit in CML and the best available choice of respective AIIMS & PGIMER Chandigarh as per merit in AML. Out of temporarily allocated choices as per merit in both CML & AML, the best choice of INI in order of preference will be allocated.
iv. Similar procedure of seat allocation will be applicable to qualified Sponsored/Foreign National category candidates limited to seats declared & applied under Sponsored/Foreign National category.
v. Seats are strictly non-convertible/non interchangeable between different sub groups unless expressly mentioned as per rules applicable at any of the participating INI.
vi. Any seat remaining vacant in respective sub groups (General Seats, Sponsored Seats & Foreign National Seats) shall be carried forward for next session.
