Calcutta HC pulls up NEET 2026 candidate over forged OMR sheets, NTA to impose 3 year debarment

Kolkata: As the Calcutta High Court observed that a NEET 2026 candidate had allegedly submitted forged OMR sheets to mislead the court and the National Testing Agency (NTA) informed the court that it would debar the candidate from appearing in NEET UG for three years under the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

The matter came up before Justice Amrita Sinha, who prima facie found that the documents submitted by the candidate appeared to be forged. The candidate had claimed that the NTA had published three different OMR sheets and evaluations for the same candidate, showing scores of 555, 215 and 281.

However, NTA's counsel told the court that all three documents were from the 2025 NEET UG examination and not from the 2026 examination, which was being challenged. The agency further submitted that the OMR sheets had been tampered with and that the candidate had appeared for the 2025 NEET as well and had attached those documents, marking certain questions in grey shade that had reportedly been left unattempted in the original.

Taking serious note of the allegations, Justice Sinha remarked, quoted by TOI, "Steps will be taken against you for forgery. Prima facie, I can see that what your client has done is not proper. The candidate thinks she will be able to confuse the authority and the court. That is highly improper."

While no costs were imposed, the court recorded that authorities could take steps against the candidate as per law, including the three-year debarment under the 2024 Act.

Medical Dialogues recently reported that the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court dismissed four petitions challenging the results of the re-NEET 2026 examination and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each petitioner for filing the cases based on incorrect and unverified claims after observing that no mistakes were found in the evaluation or declaration of the results.
