MBBS admission racket busted: 2 arrested for duping aspirants of Rs 1 crore, probe on
Bhubaneswar: Busting a medical admission scam, the Special Crime Unit arrested two men for allegedly duping several medical aspirants of Rs 1 crore by promising MBBS admissions at various prestigious medical colleges in the state as well as other states in India.
While investigating the case, the unit found that the duo were running an organisation in Bhubaneshwar where they manipulated and extracted money from the parents of the medical aspirants by promising to secure admission at a prestigious medical college.
As part of an investigation into illegal activities in the state, the team have registered a case under sections 419, 420, 465, 476, 468, 471, 120 (B), 506 and 34 of the IPC along with 66 (C) of the IT Act against the duo following which they have been arrested and presented at the court.

To dig deep into the admission scam and make them surrender the names of other individuals if involved with the racket, the Special Crime Unit urged the court to take the accused duo on remand for three days, Pragativadi reports.
According to the police, the duo has been identified as Abhinandan Barik of the Gadasahi police station area of Mayurbhanj and Rajesh Roshan Sahu of Jagatsinghpur. While Rajesh has a BTech degree in Electronics and Electricals and Abhinandan has a Diploma degree in Electricals.
During the interrogation, the duo confessed that they have cheated more than 5,000 aspirants and their parents of around Rs 1 crore for years. The fraudsters not only targeted medical aspirants but also aspirants in fields like engineering, agriculture and nursing.
The duo promised them to secure a seat at a prestigious college under the NRI quota. However, they scammed and looted money from the parents.
During the investigation, the police found 2 expensive cars, 2 laptops, 3 note counting machines, Rs 4.5 lakh rupees, brochures, mobiles, many documents, printers and other machines in the possession of the accused.
As a result, the police have seized the funds and property of the accused.
