MBBS fees rise by 10 percent in MP private medical colleges, BDS by 8 percent

Bhopal: The cost of medical education at private medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh has increased, with students seeking admission having to pay around 10 per cent higher annual fees for MBBS courses this academic year.
This comes after the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) has released the revised fee structure for MBBS and BDS courses for the NEET UG 2026-27 counselling.
While fees at government medical colleges have remained unchanged, private medical colleges have increased their MBBS fees. Fees for private BDS courses and NRI quota seats have also gone up.
Free Press Journal has reported that the annual MBBS fee in 20 government medical colleges in the state remains at Rs 1.14 lakh. This includes a tuition fee of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 14,000 as caution money.
Meanwhile, the annual fee for MBBS courses in private medical colleges has increased to around Rs 18.08 lakh, compared with about Rs 16.50 lakh last year. This means students will have to pay nearly Rs 1.58 lakh more compared to the earlier fee. The revised fee includes Rs 25,000 as caution money.
The fee for private BDS courses has also increased by around 8 per cent this year.
Aspirants seeking MBBS admission under the NRI quota will also have to pay higher fees. For the 2026-27 academic session, NRI quota fees in private medical colleges range from around Rs 33.9 lakh to Rs 53.5 lakh, depending on the college.
The revised fee structure will apply during the NEET UG 2026-27 counselling process in the state.
Taking note of mounting complaints that some private medical colleges in Telangana were demanding five years' tuition fees from MBBS students, the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) recently clarified that medical colleges can charge tuition fees only for the 4.5-year academic course and not for the one-year compulsory internship.
The committee clarified that the MBBS academic programme runs for 4.5 years, or nine semesters, followed by a one-year compulsory internship. Since the internship does not involve academic teaching, colleges cannot collect tuition fees for that period.
