Jind: Calling the NEET 2024 results a major scam, parents have filed a complaint with district higher officials demanding relief for the affected students and requesting intervention from the central government regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 results.

Citing allegations of question paper leaks, unusual scoring patterns and last-minute implementation of grace marks for lost time, the parents have voiced their concern about the students who have been affected due to the alleged discrepancies after the release of the results.

Filing the complaint, they have raised doubts regarding the timing of the result and questioned the decision of NTA to release the results of the NEET UG 2024 on May 4, a whole 10 days earlier than the scheduled time on June 14.

Medical dialogues team had reported that the National Testing Agency (NTA) clarified that the NEET 2024 candidates were awarded grace marks to address the loss of time faced by them during the exam. Despite the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) assurances, doubts persist regarding the fairness and credibility of the NEET 2024 results.

This year's NEET results came as a shock to many as 67 candidates secured the All India Rank 1 in the examination. The candidates bagged a perfect score of 720 out of 720 which created a controversy and uproar on social media. 6 students who received full marks have seat numbers from the same sequence and are all from Haryana, suggesting the possibility that they are from the same examination center.

Moreover, scorecards of students scoring 718 and 719 are also being circulated on social media, which is being claimed that its impossible to achieve in the paper. According to the NEET marking scheme, every candidate is awarded 4 marks for every right answer and 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer. Therefore, after the full marks i.e. 720, the candidates can only secure 716 marks if they leave one answer unattempted. Similarly, a candidate would get 715 marks if he/she gives one wrong answer.

Sharma, a native of Jind district whose daughter has been affected due to the alleged discrepancies said, "There are thousands of students in the nation who have been put in harried. NTA should have given extra time for students who have faced time loss rather than giving grace marks which has created trouble for every student."

"This was not an online exam in which the concerned centre can not give extra time in case of any unwanted situation but it was possible in the offline mode. But it seems that a scam has been committed to benefit some beloved persons by charging high amounts. Giving grace marks is totally wrong and the wrong move demoralized the student and parents as well. It’s a clear violation of the right to equality of students which should be taken up by concerned authorities to provide relief to affected students,” he added.

Receiving the complaint, Harish Vasisth, additional deputy commissioner in Jind district informed TOI ,"a complaint has been received by parents. Their issues and doubts seem genuine and the matter is being taken up by apprising higher officials."

Further, the parents have also raised concerns about the high cut-offs after the release of the results with 67 candidates scoring full marks. They fear that many candidates aspiring to join government medical colleges this time are discouraged by the high cut-offs in NEET.

Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency issued yet another clarification addressing queries for the candidates on the high cut-off, multiple toppers, the issue of grace marks, and other issues.

The agency, in charge of conducting the NEET UG exam, has informed that 1563 candidates were compensated for the loss of time and the revised marks of such candidates vary from -20 to 720 marks. It further informed that out 67 candidates who received 720/720 marks, 44 were on account of the revision in one Answer Key of Physics and 06 were on account of compensatory marks for loss of time.
