NEET 2025 cutoff trends show Tamil Nadu MBBS admissions remain highly competitive

Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu continues to be one of the most competitive states for MBBS admissions, with premier institutions such as Christian Medical College CMC Vellore, Madras Medical College and Stanley Medical College recording some of the highest cut-offs in the state in NEET 2025 counselling.
Despite a steady increase in MBBS seats over recent years, securing admission to top government and private medical colleges remained competitive across categories. The closing ranks in these colleges remained quite high during the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2025 counselling.
The latest counselling data showed that among all institutions, Christian Medical College, Vellore emerged as one of the most sought-after colleges, with admissions in the Open Community category closing at an All India Rank of 37. Madras Medical College and Stanley Medical College also remained among the top preferences for aspirants, reflecting the sustained demand for MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu.
Category-wise cut-off data revealed that General Category candidates required significantly higher marks for admission, whereas the closing ranks for reserved categories remained comparatively lower in many government medical colleges.
In 2022, 57,215 candidates qualified NEET out of 99,610 who appeared. The number increased to 78,693 qualifiers in 2023 and further rose to 89,198 in 2024.
Over the past few years, a consistent increase in NEET participation has been recorded in Tamil Nadu. Despite the rise in the number of MBBS seats in recent years, competition across all major categories for admission to Tamil Nadu's top government medical colleges has remained intense.
