NEET 2025: NTA discontinues optional section, check revised exam pattern
New Delhi- The National Testing Agency (NTA) has reverted the National Eligibility-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2025 exam question paper pattern and exam duration to the pre-COVID-19 format.
This means there will be no section B in the question paper this year, so there will be a total of 180 compulsory questions and candidates will get only 180 minutes i.e. 3 hours to attempt each question.
This has been recently informed through a notice, where NTA has clearly mentioned that the NEET UG 2025 exam question paper pattern and examination duration will be reverted to the pre-COVID format. Where there will not be any Section B anymore. Hence, there will only be a total of 180 compulsory questions which include 45 questions each in Physics and Chemistry and 90 in Biology which will be attempted by the candidates only in 180 minutes thereby removing any optional questions and extra time introduced due to COVID.
“The provision for optional questions, introduced temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, will no longer be available”, the notice read.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) is soon going to conduct the NEET UG 2025 exam. Meanwhile, the NEET UG 2025 exam final syllabus has been released. The syllabus has been finalised by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC). Therefore, NTA will conduct the NEET (UG) 2025 exam strictly on the basis of the syllabus finalized by the NMC.
NEET UG 2025 syllabus consists of a total of 20 topics in Physics, a total of 20 topics in Chemistry, and a total of 10 topics in Biology. NEET UG is a national-level examination for admission to undergraduate medical courses in all medical colleges in India. This exam is also conducted for admission to dental, ayurveda, veterinary, nursing and life science courses at the UG level.
