PG Medical Admissions: TN State Counselling Committee Withholds Round 3 Results Following HC order
Chennai: The postgraduate medical admission process in Tamil Nadu has now been halted as the State Selection Committee of Tamil Nadu has now withheld the round three results of MD/MS courses.
This was done after the Madras High Court bench issued an order on October 5 and directed the Committee not to declare the results of MD General Medicine course.
While considering a batch of pleas in this connection, the Madras HC bench of Justice Anita Sumanth ordered on October 5, "This order is passed in regard to the M.D. (General Medicine) course alone where results shall not be declared until further orders of this Court. There is no restriction placed in regard to the declaration of results for other courses."
"The results in respect of M.D.(General Medicine) will be opened (but not declared) and the number of applicants who have secured marks in excess of 597 (which this petitioner has secured) will be ascertained and reported to this Court on 06.10.2023 at 10.30 a.m.," the order further stated.
Following the High Court order, the State Selection Committee in Tamil Nadu issued an order on October 6, 2023, and put the round 3 counselling for PG medical courses on halt.
"It is informed that, as per the Interim Court Order passed in W.P.No.29086 of 2023 Dated:05.10.2023 the round 3 (Mop-Up Round ) results are withheld and the Results will be published subject to Hon’ble Court order," the order mentioned.
Even though the HC order had not put any restriction on the declaration of results for other courses, the State Selection Committee withheld the results for all. As per the latest media report by the Times of India, this was done because of technical reason. A Senior official in the selection committee informed the Daily, “The software does not permit us to isolate MD general medicine from the rest. We have submitted this fact to the court and sought early relief.”
"Candidates fill nearly 40-80 choices during online counselling. So, it's not possible to isolate each branch as the subsequent selection of candidates depends on the earlier allotment,” the official said.
Adding that the matter has been posted for further hearing on Monday, the official informed the Daily, “We are hoping to get it sorted by then.”
