New Delhi: Another major change towards the PG medical entrance test, NEET PG 2021 for MD, MS and PG Diploma is in the tie-breaking criteria.

The number of criteria impacting the NEET PG tie-breaking rule has been reduced from eight to four. In a situation where two or more candidates secure the same marks, the authorities will now only consider factors such as more number of correct responses, less number of negative responses, older candidates and higher aggregate marks (in percentage).

The earlier rule mandated that the candidate having

  1. lesser number of negative responses in the whole paper (Part A+ Part B+ Part C) will be placed at a better merit position;

  2. higher marks in Part C of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position;

  3. the lesser number of negative responses in part C of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position;

  4. higher marks in Part B of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position;

  5. the lesser number of negative responses in Part B of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position;

  6. higher marks in Part A of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position;

  7. the lesser number of negative responses in Part A of the question paper will be placed at a better merit position and

  8. lastly, the older candidate will be placed at a better merit position.

However, the criteria as now been changed corresponding to the massive alter to the test's exam pattern which will now only have 200 questions. Till last year, the NEET PG exam was divided into three sections - A, B, and C with 50, 100, and 150 questions in each, respectively.

According to the 10.6 points in the NEET PG 2021 information bulletin:

TIE BREAKER CRITERIA:
In the event of two or more candidates obtaining same score, the merit position shall be determined using following tie breaker criteria in descending order:
A. Candidate having greater number of correct responses in the question paper will be placed at a better merit position.
B. Candidate having lesser number of negative responses in the question paper will be placed at a better merit position.
C. Older candidate will be placed at a better merit position.
D. Candidate securing higher aggregate marks (in percentage) in all MBBS Professional Examinations will be placed at a better merit position

NEET-PG is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examination for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses as per Section 61(2) of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 read with 10 (D) of Indian Medical Council Act, 1956. No other entrance examination, either at the state or the Institution level, shall be valid for entry to MD/MS/PG Diploma courses. Qualifying NEET-PG is mandatory for entry to MD/MS/PG Diploma courses under various Universities/ Institutions in the country. NEET PG is mandatory even for foreign nationals seeking admission in medical courses in India.
