TN opens admissions for MPhil clinical psychology course IMH Chennai, check all details

Tamil Nadu Opens Applications For M.Phil Clinical Psychology Course At IMH Chennai

Chennai: The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), Tamil Nadu, has begun the admission process for the M Phil Clinical Psychology course at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Kilpauk, Chennai, for the 2025-26 academic year.

Interested candidates can apply online till June 15, 2026, while the entrance examination is tentatively scheduled for June 21. Affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), the two-year programme offers 10 seats and aims to train psychology graduates in advanced clinical practice and mental healthcare.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:-

• All legal disputes pertaining to allocation of seats finalized by the Selection Committee shall fall within the jurisdiction of Madras only.

• The Online prospectus and application for admission to M.Phil (Clinical psychology) course 2025-2026 session in Institute of Mental Health, Kilpauk, Chennai-10 affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University will be available on website.

• Any change or modification and relevant information pertaining to this admission process will be made available on the website.

• Candidates are advised to be in touch with the official website for schedule / latest updates / results / notices / news & events pertaining to counselling as Selection committee will not be individually contacting the candidates for the same.

• Candidates are advised to read the prospectus carefully before filling the online application form and ensure that no mandatory column is left blank. In the event of rejection of the application, no correspondence and request for reconsideration will be entertained.

• The Candidates are instructed to check the website frequently for updates during the entire admission process.

• Candidates are requested to paste their photograph on the Hall Ticket. (The photograph must be an identical copy of the one uploaded on the online application form).

• The merit list will be available on the website.

The candidates can attend the entrance exams and counselling as per the date & time mentioned in the counselling schedule which will also be available on the website:

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:-

1. a) Candidates seeking application for admission to M.Phil (Clinical Psychology) course 2025-2026 session in Institute of Mental Health, Kipauk, Chennai-10 affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R University can access on the website.

Non-refundable application fee of Rs.2.000/-

• Method of all fee payments through online payment portal only.

• Candidates have to pay application fee through online via Debit card / Credit card / Net Banking or RTGS.

• All Candidates should make sure to apply in time and avoid last minute rush.

• Candidates must note that mere deduction of fee from the Bank account is not a proof of fee payment.

b) The candidates shall ensure that the completed online application form with all particulars are true.

c) Photocopy / Fax copy of the application will not be accepted.

2. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

3. The Selection Committee will not be responsible for the consequences resulting due to non-diligent follow-up of notices, notification and publication appearing on the official website regarding the admissions.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:-

4. (i) Candidates should be Citizen of India.

(ii) Candidates who have studied VIII to XII Standard and under graduate and post graduate education in schools and colleges respectively in Tamil Nadu need not enclose “Nativity Certificate”.

(iii) Candidates who are native of Tamil Nadu but studied from VIII to XII standard or under graduation or post graduation either partially or completely in schools / colleges situated outside Tamil Nadu should produce the Nativity Certificate.

(iv) The Certificate of Nativity in Tamil Nadu should be issued by the competent authority only in the specified format available in the application form and supported by a copy of Passport / Ration Card / Birth Certificate. Failure to submit supporting document or furnishing nativity certificate after the last date of receipt of online application will not be accepted.

(v) Applications submitted without proper Nativity Certificate will not be considered.

(vi) Permanent Residence Certificate will not be accepted.

(vii) Candidates who are native of Tamil Nadu alone will be considered for communal reservation.

5. Nativity Certificate should be produced as per “Instructions for Nativity Certificate” in Annexure II (a). Producing false nativity certificate if detected at any time later during the course of study will result in expulsion of the candidate and also initiation of criminal proceedings against the candidate as well as the Parents as per law.

6. Minimum Education qualification for admission into M.Phil (Clinical Psychology) shall be 10+2+3+2 under full time regular mode. The candidates should obtain the basic degree i.e. B.A. / B.Sc. in Psychology and P.G degree i.e. M.A. / M.Sc. in Psychology, Applied psychology, counselling psychology and clinical psychology. Candidates who have done their 5 years integrated course of psychology are also eligible. Both Under graduate and Post graduate degrees should be in full time regular mode and such degrees must have been approved by the University Grants Commission as equivalent thereto with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate preferably with special paper in Clinical Psychology. For SC / SCA / ST / BC / BCM / MBC categories minimum of 50% marks in aggregate is essential.

PROCEDURE FOR FILLING THE APPLICATION:-

7. a) Candidates should upload the necessary enclosures while submitting the online application. The fee for application Rs.2,000/- (Non-refundable) should be paid through online payment via (Debit Card / Credit Card / Net banking / UPI by payment portal in the website.

Candidates must note that mere deduction of fee from the bank account is not a proof of fee payment.

There is no application fee in respect of SC / SCA / ST Candidates.

b) Recent identical passport size photographs should be uploaded with the application form, Identification cum attendance slip and the Entrance Exam, Hall ticket in triplicate as instructed. The Photograph must be taken as shown in the Instructions. (Annexure V)

Note: If the Photograph is not a recent one taken at the time of submitting the application, the Application will be rejected.

8. Candidates shall ensure the details and submit the completed online application form with all particulars in the prescribed format.

9. Candidates must upload the following documents in the order indicated below along with the application:

i) Birth Certificate or copy of H.Sc. Certificate / School Leaving Certificate / College Leaving Certificate.

ii) Mark Sheets from First to Final Year / Semester of M.A. / M.Sc. Psychology Degree Course.

• Candidates who have submitted GRADE Sheets instead of Mark Sheet should obtain the statement of marks indicating the actual marks secured from the examination authority and upload a certified copy as an enclosure along with the application.

iii) Nativity certificate with supporting documents (if applicable).

iv) Transfer certificate obtained after the completion of M.A. / M.Sc. Psychology Degree Course.

v) Community Certificate

vi) M.A. / M.Sc. Psychology Degree Course completion certificate from the Head of the Institution studied.

vii) Attempt Certificate in Final Year / Final Semester M.A. / M.Sc. Psychology Degree from the Head of the Institution studied.

viii) M.A. / M.Sc. Psychology Degree Certificate or Provisional Pass Certificate from the concerned University.

10. The Government Orders issued and to be issued from time to time pertaining to any of the matters contained in the prospectus should be read as part and parcel of this prospectus and such terms and conditions in the Government Order are deemed to have been incorporated in this prospectus.

MODE OF SELECTION:-

11. Candidates who secure marks not less than 50% (40% in respect of SC / SCA / ST / MBC / BC / BCM) in the entrance examination will only be called for interview. Candidates selected in the interview will be selected based on the highest percentage of marks obtained by the candidates in overall. The total marks obtained in the entrance examination will be reduced to the base of 60 marks and the balance 40% is awarded for interview. Candidates called for the interview should bring all the original documents mentioned above along with a set of attested copies of the same.

12. The Selection Committee will publish the list of selected candidates in the website www.tnmedicalselection.net. The candidates are advised to visit the website every day from the date of issue of applications for information.

CONDUCT OF EXAMINATION:-

13. The Entrance Examination will be conducted as scheduled below:-

Date of Entrance Examination 21.06.2026, 10.00 A.M. to 12.00 Noon (Tentatively) subject to change
Date of Interview 22.06.2026, 10.00 A.M. Subject to change

• This Entrance Examination is valid only for admission for the said course for the academic year 2025-2026. The Centre in which the entrance examination is to be written will be given in the Hall Ticket. The examination will be conducted only in English.

Answers should be shaded with a Ball Point Pen in the OMR answer sheet as per the instructions given and if it is shaded with any other item, the answer sheets will not be considered for valuation without any intimation to the candidate.

14. Hall Tickets can be downloaded from the official website prior to the commencement of the entrance examination. However, admission to Entrance Examination does not confer on the candidate the right for admission to the course if the candidate is found to be ineligible later.

15. Candidates admitted for the entrance examination will have to come at their own expense and will have to make their own arrangements for stay.

16. Candidates with Hall Tickets only will be allowed to enter the Examination Hall.

17. (a) Candidates for M.Phil (Clinical Psychology) Course are advised to be present at 21.06.2026 8.30 a.m. in the Examination Centre. They are required to be seated in their respective seats 15 minutes before the commencement of examination and to fill up the 1st Page of Question Booklet. Question Booklets should not be opened by the candidates before 10.00 A.M.

(b) Candidates who report after 30 minutes of the commencement of the examination shall not be permitted to appear for the examination.

18. No candidate will be allowed to leave the hall before the end of the examination. Candidates shall not be allowed to carry any text material printed or written, bits of paper, electronic devices with or without remote sensing like Pagers, Cellular Phones or Electronic Diary etc., and pencil / pens inside the Examination Hall.

19. Candidates shall maintain silence. Any misconduct will result in forfeiture of the right to continue the examination. His / Her answer will not be considered for evaluation. Further the candidate will not be allowed to apply for M.Phil (Clinical Psychology) Course.

SCHEME OF ENTRANCE EXAMINATION:-

20. All the candidates seeking admission should appear for an Entrance Examination conducted by the Selection Committee.

21. Each paper will be of post graduate degree standard and will contain 120 objective type questions with 4 responses.

22. Each question will carry 1 mark. There will be negative marks of 0.25 marks for incorrect responses.

23. Indicating more than one response will be deemed as incorrect response and will be given zero mark. The Maximum marks will be computed to 60.

24. Candidates are not allowed to take back the question booklets and any request for the issue of Xerox copies of question booklets / answer sheets / keys will not be entertained.

DECLARATION OF RESULTS:-

25. The Selection Committee will publish the merit list on the website.

26. There will be no Rechecking / Revaluation / Re-totaling of answers.

27. MERIT LIST: - The Final Merit list drawn for a Total mark of 100 by computing

1) 60 marks for the Entrance Examination.

2) 40 marks for Interview.
