4 New Medical Colleges to come up in Odisha

Odisha- During the launch of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in Odisha on April 11, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the state government is going to set up medical colleges in four more districts of Odisha soon.
Speaking at the program in the Cuttack city, the Chief Minister said that at present, there are 12 medical colleges in Odisha. Along with this, 2 more new medical colleges in four more districts will be dedicated to the people soon.
According to a report by Samvad English, new medical colleges will be set up in the Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal and Nabarangpur districts of Odisha. For this, the state government has allocated funds in the budget for 2025-26.
The BJP government of Odisha has appointed a total of 4,000 doctors and health workers in the state in the last 10 months. Now, the government is taking steps to recruit 5,000 more doctors and dentists in the state in the coming days.
Earlier, the state government had announced that medical colleges would be set up in all districts of Odisha in the next five years. Meanwhile, in 2014, the central government had made a new rule to set up medical colleges in all districts of the country. According to the rule, medical colleges will be set up by sharing the cost 60:40 between the central and state governments.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the Odisha government had announced plans for two new medical colleges - one in the Jagatsinghpur district and the other in Dhenkanal. The Jagatsinghpur Institute was announced by Odisha's food supply and consumer welfare minister Krishna Chandra Patra, who highlighted that the medical colleges were a long-standing demand of the residents of these areas.
