51 Resident Doctors, Faculty told to Vacate Hostel to accommodate MBBS students, move criticised
Daltonganj: Altogether 51 junior resident doctors, senior resident doctors, and professors of Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH), Daltonganj have been asked to vacate their rooms from the two hostels of the institute, which are meant for the medical students, latest by July 25.
The principal of the medical college Dr. Kamender Prasad issued the order on July 18, 2023, stating it to be in the interest of the administrative work. While this decision of the authorities has been heavily criticized by the residents, the principal of the institute has clarified that this direction was issued to accommodate 100 students who are going to be admitted to the medical college after completion of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) counselling.
Urging the principal to reconsider the order, a senior resident of the institute told TOI, "This is the dictatorial attitude of the principal. The order will make 51 of us roofless. This situation will affect our medical services here."
However, the Principal Dr. Prasad pointed out that these 51 doctors and faculty members were occupying one room each and this resulted in a room crunch for the newly admitted medical students.

Dr. Prasad told the Times of India, "We have been constrained to issue the order. Around 100 students will come in the 2023-24 session once the NEET counselling is over. We have over 300 students living in the hostels. For these new 100 students there will be no room left as the 51 doctors and faculty members have occupied one room each.”
"The junior resident doctors, senior resident doctors and the professors were permitted to live in the hostels since 2019 when this college had just taken off with 100 students in the first year and then it had enough empty rooms but now the number of students is going up as against the capacity of the hostels. Hence the 51 have been asked to vacate," he further added.
"These people (51) are unnecessarily beating about the bush. We have told them to adjust two in one room and by this way 51 can start living in just 26 rooms. This will help us to tide over the crisis of accommodation. We have also suggested them to adjust themselves on the ground floor and the first floor of the hostels and not insist on living on second floor, third floor and fourth floor,” mentioned the Principal.
