7 new medical colleges to come up in MP, MBBS seats to cross 3,000 mark
Bhopal: The medical seats of the state will receive a significant boost as the state government is all set to establish 7 new medical colleges within the next few years.
The establishment of these new medical colleges will increase the number of medical seats from 2035 to 3070 in government medical colleges.
Authorities will soon send a letter seeking the permission of the National Medical Commission (NMC) this year in this regard. With the opening of these new medical colleges, the number of medical colleges in the state will increase to 20.
New medical colleges will come up in Mandla, Sheopur, Rajgarh, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Singrauli, and Satna, according to medical education department officials. Three more new medical colleges are also on the streamline. However, it will take two to three years to open the colleges.
Speaking to the Free Pass Journal, the Director of Medical Education Dr. Jiten Shukla said, " Work is going on to prepare buildings for these colleges. On preparation, we will apply to the National Medical Commission."
The problem of shortage of doctors could be mitigated through the opening of new medical colleges. In addition, the scarcity of medical teachers will be addressed. The universities will also launch MD-MS courses which will be helpful in providing the state with a sufficient number of specialist doctors in the state. These colleges are being established in partnership with the Indian government. It will cost Rs 325 crores to build the college. The Indian government will provide 60% of the total amount.
Last year the Government had already allotted an amount of Rs 1547.45 crore for the construction of these medical institutes. As per the data provided by the MoS Health Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar before the Lok Sabha, Madhya Pradesh presently has a total number of 23 medical colleges. Among these, 14 medical colleges are run by the Government and 9 medical colleges are run by private management.
