9 medical colleges in Telangana to begin MBBS admissions this year
Hyderabad: Giving the medical aspirants a reason to celebrate, nearly 9 medical colleges across the state will be ready to accept admissions this year soon after the National Medical commission's (NMC) approval.
The confirmation in this regard came from the Health Minister T. Harish Rao who directed officials to speed up the work process on nine upcoming medical colleges in the State.
The nine newly established medical colleges are located at Karimnagar, Khammam, Kamareddy, Vikarabad, Jangaon , Nirmal, Jayashankar-Bhupalpally, Sircilla and Asifabad districts.

During a meeting held at the MCRHRD institute on Saturday, Rao directed the officials to take necessary action for the medical colleges to get approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Before continuing with the admission process, the NMC conducts inspection to meet their standard norms. Hence inspection process has been completed in three medical colleges and rest are expected to be completed in the coming few days.
Commenting on this, he informed TOI, "All colleges should be prepared to get approval from the National Medical Commission. Action should be taken to satisfy the norms of NMC. There should not be any errors or shortcomings under any circumstances and all pending work must be expedited."
Apart from the approval of the medical colleges in the state, the government have also ensured that recruitment process of teaching faculty for these medical colleges will take place soon.
The minister said "67 persons have already been given promotions as part of the target of starting the nine medical colleges. It has been decided to give posting to 210 associate professors through counselling within a week. The process of appointment of 1,442 assistant professors has reached the final stage, the provisional merit list will be released in two to three days and steps should be taken to provide the final appointment letters within 10 days."
Special Chief Secretary K.Ramakrishna Rao said that a video conference will be held on March 28 with the Ministers, MLAs, district collectors, college principal and engineers pertaining to the nine districts.
With these nine new colleges, the total number of colleges will increase to 26 in the State and the number of MBBS seats will increase to 3,690.
Rao also directed the officials to provide all necessary facilities, including hostel accommodation, necessary furniture and equipment by the time the classes begin.
It should be brought to attention that when 157 medical colleges were sanctioned in the country by the centre, not a single college was sanctioned in Telangana.
Medical Dialogues team had last year reported the Twitter feud between the Governor and Health Minister of Telangana over over the sanctioning of medical colleges by the Centre in the State.
While the Governor praised the Central Government for setting up new medical colleges across the States and blamed the State government for not applying in time, the Health Minister claimed how the Central Government has done gross injustice to state by not responding to the repeated pleas.
