Centre Approves New Govt Medical College at ESI Hospital in Asansol

Asansol- The Central Government has recently approved the establishment of a new Government Medical College and Hospital in the ESI Hospital Campus at Asansol, West Bengal. The proposal to set up a medical college at the ESI Hospital campus was submitted to the Union Labour Ministry by Mr Ghatak a few years ago, citing the availability of adequate land.
This was confirmed by West Bengal Law Minister Malay Ghatak, who said the ESI hospital located on Sen Raleigh Road falls in his Asansol North assembly constituency.
Speaking to The Statesman, ESI Hospital Superintendent Dr Atanu Bhadra said that recently, the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Board in New Delhi has given its approval for the proposed medical college. However, the project is still in its initial stages and the exact timeline for construction is yet to be decided. Preliminary work is expected to begin within the next month.
Along with this, Minister Moloy Ghatak highlighted the ongoing efforts to modernise and upgrade the healthcare infrastructure in ESI hospitals in West Bengal. To this, he said that the state government has already set up a nursing school in Asanson, which offers a BSc Nursing degree along with facilities like a dental care unit, ICU, SNCU and dialysis unit.
On this, the state government has also completed the construction of the nursing college building at a cost of Rs 8 crore. This college has 50 seats annually for students pursuing a BSc in Nursing.
Meanwhile, Medical Dialogues earlier reported that in a significant step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure for workers, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the newly constructed 30-bedded Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital at Kala Amb, Himachal Pradesh.
