'Dance naked, Commit suicide'! Shocking Harassment Allegations Rock RIMS Imphal, Students Demand Director’s Removal

RIMS Imphal
Imphal: In a serious escalation of unrest at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, MBBS and BDS students have accused the institute’s Director of mental harassment and abuse, including allegedly asking students to "dance naked, commit suicide" and threatening to "hang them."
Shocked and outraged, students staged a large protest march from the All Manipur Students’ Union Office at DM Campus, demanding the immediate removal of the Director, along with the Dean and Sub-Dean. Students alleged that the Dean and Sub-Dean remained silent in the face of the Director’s abusive behavior, amounting to complicity.
Even though the RIMS Superintendent rushed to the protest site to address the grievances of the students, the students stood their ground, demanding the immediate removal of the Director.
Sharing a statement to Northeast Live, the students strongly condemned the Director's actions. Apart from alleging that the Director used abusive and threatening language towards the students, they also criticised the Dean and Sub-Dean for failing to intervene. The students have insisted that the silence of both officials amounted to complicity. Therefore, the students have demanded that all three (the Director, Dean, and Sub-Dean) should be removed from their positions.
When the Superintendent of the Institute arrived at the protest site to engage with the students and address their grievances, the students firmly refused any dialogue until decisive action would be taken against the Director and the senior officials involved.
Meanwhile, the videos and photos of the students protesting against the Director have now become viral on social media. The students could be seen holding placards that read "We accept punishment not harassment", "Why Director wants us to be naked", "Director the Dictator" etc. They could be heard raising slogans demanding justice.
Reacting to the incident, health activist Dr. Dhruv Chauhan, who is also the National Spokesperson of the Indian Medical Association Junior Doctors' Network (IMA-JDN) wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "This is ridiculous ! What is happening in Manipur ? How such director is on her post despite the entire college alleging him of harassment at this level."
"Director of RIMS ,IMPHAL... Forcing students to Strip #Naked ... Mental abuse ... Harrassment What is happening in #IMPHAL ?" read an X post by Indian Doctor.
