Darbhanga Medical College to be upgraded: CM Nitish Kumar
Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said that Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) would be further developed by providing more infrastructural facilities.
Mr Kumar during a review meeting in Darbhanga, said that DMCH was second oldest Medical College Hospital of Bihar. Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) was first established in Bihar and later DMCH came into existence as its need was felt for treatment facilities of vast population of north Bihar, he added.
Chief Minister said that PMCH was being expanded with more treatment facilities and basic infrastructures. Similarly, DMCH would also be equipped with more treatment facilities and directives had already been issued to the concerned authorities for providing additional infrastructures to this Medical College Hospital, he added.
Mr Kumar said that All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga was being established on his initiative. He was first in favour of upgrading DMCH into AIIMS but latter, a decision was taken to establish AIIMS as separate Hospital in Darbhanga, he stated.
Mr Kumar said that Bihar government was providing all sort of assistance for establishing AIIMS in Darbhanga. The under construction AIIMS did not need more than 150 acres of land and only required area of land of DMCH should be transferred to AIIMS, he added.
