GMC Ananthapuram Gets NMC Nod for 50 additional MBBS Seats
Ananthapuram: The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has granted its permission to Government Medical College, Ananthapuram (Andhra Pradesh) for an increase of 50 MBBS seats for the academic year 2024-2025.
NMC issued the Letter of Permission (LoP) to the medical college after the 2nd Appeal Committee of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) informed the Commission about its decision in this regard on 09.09.2024.
With the NMC nod for an increase of 50 MBBS seats, GMC Ananthapuram (Anantapur) has now 200 MBBS seats available for admission this year.
"In pursuance of decision of the 2nd Appeal Committee received from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) order dated 09-09-2024 cited above, Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) is conveying you the Letter of Permission for Increase intake of 50 MBBS Seats (from 150-200 seats) for the A.Y. 2024-25 at Government Medical College, Ananthapuram (Andhra Pradesh)," NMC Medical Assessment and Rating Board mentioned in the Letter of Permission (LoP) issued to the Dean/Principal of the institute.
The Commission further clarified that the institute was liable to fulfil and maintain norms including the infrastructure both physical and human resources, teaching faculty, clinical material etc. throughout the academic year, as stipulated in regulation of National Medical Commission.
"In case of false/wrong declaration or fabricated documents have been used for procuring permissions of MARB and any misconduct is brought to the notice of National Medical Commission or found during surprise assessment at any stage during the current academic year, your institution is liable, not to be considered for recognition of that degree. This letter of permission will be revoked for the current academic year if such exigency arises. Besides, National Medical Commission (NMC) is entitled to take all such measures against you and your college/institution as permissible under the law," the Commission mentioned.
NMC further highlighted that the government medical colleges needed to contribute 15% MBBS seats and 50% of post-graduate broad specialities (MD/MS) seats for All India Quota respectively, to MCC and DGHS for conduction of counselling as per the directions of Honrble Supreme Court.
"It is mandatory to develop a website of medical college/institution and display all the information of college and courses offered as per the guidelines issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) from time to time," the Commission added, asking the medical college to acknowledge the letter.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that MARB had granted permission for MBBS admission at 44 new medical colleges and allowed an increase of MBBS seats in altogether 19 existing medical colleges for the academic year 2024-2025.
Among these 44 new medical colleges, 24 medical colleges have received the NMC permission for 50 MBBS seats, 11 medical colleges have received permission for 100 MBBS seats and 9 medical colleges have been granted permission for 150 MBBS seats each.
Further, NMC approved 19 existing medical colleges an increase of MBBS seats. Among them, 14 medical colleges have received permission for 50 MBBS seats, 1 medical college has been granted an increase of 72 MBBS seats, and 2 medical colleges have been granted an increase of 100 MBBS seats each. The Commission has also approved an increase of 20 MBBS seats at one medical college and 30 MBBS seats at another. However, the list did not include permission for GMC Ananthapuram as it was only obtained after a 2nd appeal was made before the Union Health Ministry.
