High Court issues notice to State, CBI, Medical University over irregularities in GMC recruitment
Rohtak: While considering a plea demanding a fresh CBI probe to investigate the allegations of recruitment irregularities at BPS Government Medical College for Women, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) through its director. Apart from the CBI, the court has also issued notice to the Haryana Government through its Chief Secretary; Additional Chief Secretary (Medical Education and Research), Haryana; Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHS), Rohtak, through its Registrar; Director, PGIMS, Rohtak, and ex-director of BPS Government Medical College for Women, Khanpur Kalan, Sonepat.
The bench was considering a plea filed by former Additional Chief Vigilance Officer (ACVO) at the UHS, who had retired back in 2017.
The doctor informed the High Court about a fact-finding inquiry conducted by him upon the allegations of large-scale irregularities in the GMC recruitment. The director of the medical college at that time is currently working as the head of the department of orthopedic surgery at Rohtak PGIMS.
As per the latest media report by The Tribune, a retired District and Sessions Judge had been appointed as the inquiry officer and had conducted a regular inquiry. In the inquiry report, the retired judge had remarked, "from the facts on record, I am of further clear opinion that Dr. *** has misled the Health Minister and other authorities of the state government and UHS/PGIMS, Rohtak, by twisting facts."
Following this, issuing a letter to the UHS VC, Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Medical Education and Research), the State Government had expressed its displeasure to the former ACVO regarding the fact-finding inquiry conducted by him against the former Director of the college.
"It was this reported misconduct of *** which needlessly caused avoidable action to be initiated and wasted precious time and energy, besides causing hardship to the affected parties," the letter had mentioned.
Challenging this order containing the displeasure note, the doctor approached the High Court and demanded a fresh probe by the CBI regarding the allegations.
While considering the matter, the HC bench comprising of Justice Mahabir Singh Sindhu has directed that the said order shall be kept at abeyance till the next date of the hearing. Issuing notices in the matter, the bench has listed the matter for further hearing on March 11.
