JIPMER: Pulmonary Medicine Residents shine at National Events
Puducherry : The postgraduate students of the Pulmonary Medicine Department at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry have achieved remarkable success at multiple national events, the institute informed in a release. Their outstanding performances have not only brought recognition to the department but have also showcased the talent and dedication of these young doctors.
At a state-level quiz competition organized by the National College of Chest Physicians (India), Dr. V. Balasubramaniam, Dr. B. Karthik, and Dr. Christie George Joseph, final year postgraduate students, emerged as winners, securing the first, second, and third prizes respectively . Dr. Balasubramaniam and Dr. Karthik will now represent the Puducherry region at the national level quiz competition to be held in Mumbai.
Another notable success came in the form of Dr. Zeeenathalam Nadaf, a final year postgraduate resident, who won the second prize for the oral presentation of her thesis titled "Prognostic significance of CT determined Emphysema score in smokers with treatment naive advanced lung cancer in a tertiary care institute - a prospective cohort study" . This recognition was bestowed upon her at the 14th Annual Conference of the Indian Society for the Study of Lung Cancer-NALCCON 2023, held in Rohtak, Haryana. The study, co-authored by Dr. Pratap Upadhya, Dr. Madhusmita Mohanty Mohapatra, Dr. Prasanth Ganesan, and Dr. Subathra, highlights the importance of early detection and prognosis in lung cancer patients.
In addition, Dr. C. Rakesh, a first-year postgraduate resident, secured the second prize at the post-graduate quiz competition held at ILDCON PIMS-2023 in Puducherry .
Furthermore, Dr. Christie George Joseph, a final year postgraduate resident, received the Best Oral Paper Award for his thesis titled "Effect of home-based Pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with interstitial lung disease in a tertiary care centre - A stratified Randomized Control trial" . This recognition was presented to him at the National Conference of Pulmonary Diseases-NAPCON 2023, held in New Delhi. The thesis, guided by a team of experienced doctors and professionals, including Dr. R. Manju, Dr. Madhusmita, Dr. Subathra, Dr. Chengappa K G, Dr. Jayalakshmy, Dr. Moushumi Mukherjee, Mrs. Bhanumathy Mohanakrishnan, and Mrs. Vijayalakshmi, sheds light on the importance of pulmonary rehabilitation in improving the quality of life for patients with interstitial lung disease.
Lastly, Dr. Shivam Garg and Dr. Christie George Joseph, final year postgraduate students, secured the second prize at the Medanta Lung Transplant Quiz held during the National Conference of Pulmonary Diseases - NAPCON 2023 in New Delhi, the release informed
