KEA warns against unauthorised fee collection from medical students
Bengaluru: After receiving complaints that some medical colleges are collecting extra fees from students during UG and PG admissions, the Admission Overseeing Committee under the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has directed colleges to strictly adhere to the fee structure as per the agreement and advised affected students to approach the committee for redressal and file complaints regarding such illegal fee collection practices.
As per the agreement, colleges are permitted to charge only Rs 30,000 as Skill Lab fee and Rs 15,000 as Miscellaneous fee. The committee clarified that any other unauthorised fee collection would amount to a violation of the agreed norms.
Issuing a notice on 19.5.26, the Chairman of the Admission Overseeing Committee noted that some of the medical colleges are collecting university fees during the time of UG and PG admission in their colleges, even though the same has been paid by the students to the Karnataka Examinations Authority during their allotment, and so the collected university fee was directly remitted to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science by KEA.
The committee also noted that some colleges are demanding caution deposits and other miscellaneous fees, which are not allowed under the existing consensual agreement between the State Government and private medical colleges. As per the agreement, colleges are permitted to collect only a Skill Lab fee of Rs 30,000 and a miscellaneous fee of Rs 15,000.
Taking serious note of these practices, the committee has advised students who have been charged such fees to come forward and file complaints. Affected students can approach the Admission Overseeing Committee for redressal.
"It has come to the knowledge of the Chairman, Admission Overseeing Committee that some of the medical colleges are collecting university fees during the time of UG and PG admission in their colleges even though the same has been paid by the students to Karnataka Examinations Authority during their allotment and so collected university fee was directly remitted to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science by KEA. It has also come to the knowledge of the Chairman, Admission Overseeing Committee that some of the medical colleges are demanding and collecting Caution Money deposit and other college fees which are not permissible as per the consensual agreement entered into between the State Government and the colleges wherein there is provision for collecting Skill Lab fee of Rs.30,000/- and Misc. Fee of Rs. 15,000/-. Under these circumstances, therefore it is notified to all such students that if any student aggrieved by such demand and has paid University Fee, Caution Money deposit and any other College fees which are not permissible as per the consensual agreement can approach the Admission Overseeing Committee for redressal," mentioned the notice.
