Korba, Mahasamund Medical Colleges fail to get nod from NMC
Raipur: In a major setback for Chhattisgarh, the National Medical Commission has once again denied giving recognition to two of the medical colleges of the State- Mahasamund and Korba Medical Colleges.
The top medical regulator in India, NMC, pointed out shortages of faculties and instructors, inadequate infrastructure, problems with laboratory and library as the reasons for denying recognition.
The colleges have been directed to deal with the shortcomings and following that another inspection will be conducted.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that even though last year the Kanker Medical College had been approved by NMC, the apex medical body didn't give its nod for the Korba and Mahasamund medical colleges.
Last year in August the Medical Assessment and Rating Board of NMC had inspected those three medical colleges in Chhattisgarh along with the UG Expert Medical Group online representation.
However, after finding some shortcomings, the committee had given 21 days of time for improvement. Consequently, the Mahasamund Medical College on October 18 gave an online representation.

Responding to this, the MARB denied giving approval to the medical college taking note of the fact that for the posts of Professor of Anatomy, associate professor in Respiratory Medicine Emergency Medicine and Physiology, Associate Professor in Forensic Medicine, in Laboratory equipment appointments were still to be made.
In the case of Korba Medical College, the Committee had rejected the application and opined that there was no improvements in the equipment procurements. Further, the Commmittee had pointed out that the Principal of the college, being away from the campus, couldn't show the infrastructure.
As a result, the Medical colleges in Korba and Mahasamund were denied approval last year and after this new academic year begun, the NMC inspected the colleges again.
As per the latest media report by IBC24, the erstwhile Medical Council of India, now National Medical Commission (NMC) denied giving recognition to these two medical colleges as the Commission pointed out several shortcomings including shortage of faculty, inadequate infrastructure, lack of lab equipment, shortcomings in the library among others.
After dealing with these shortcomings, the colleges will have to inform NMC about the same within 15 days and after that the Commission will conduct another inspection, adds the daily.
