Lack of faculty, proper labs, accommodations: GMC Asifabad MBBS students stage protest demanding basic amenities
Kumuram Bheem Asifabad: Frustrated by the lack of basic amenities and faculty to continue a medical course, a large group of MBBS students of the Asifabad Government Medical College staged a dharna in front of the institution recently.
The students boycotted classes and held placards highlighting their needs, which included a proper laboratory, cadavers for practicals, hostel accommodations, sanitation, a canteen, and reliable transport to the town.

As per Telangana Today news report, they also highlighted the lack of professors at the college. The students said they were struggling to understand their subjects due to a shortage of teachers and were facing inconvenience in pursuing the MBBS due to a slew of challenges faced by the institution.
Accusing the college principal of ignoring their repeated requests to address these issues, the student submitted a representation to Collector Venkatesh Dothre seeking his intervention in addressing the challenges of the college.
In their representation, the students also called for the recruitment of lab technicians, sufficient assistants and associate professors to ensure proper teaching. They even stated that the issues were previously informed to the principal but no improvement was being made.
"The Collector assured us to take steps to improve basic amenities and ensure professors were appointed. We had brought the issue to the notice of the principal in the past as well," said the students.
