Madras Medical College house surgeons arrested for ganja, ketamine possession

Chennai: In a recent search operation on a drug abuse complaint, three house surgeons of Madras Medical College and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) were arrested after being caught red-handed with marijuana and ketamine in their PG hostel on the campus.
The operation was initiated following a complaint from Dr. E. Theranirajan, Dean of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), regarding suspected drug abuse in the postgraduate men's hostel. Authorities are currently searching for a fourth student involved.
According to recent reports, during the raid, the police recovered and seized 149 grams of ganja and four vials of ketamine from the possession of four postgraduate medical students in their hostel room. Although the police arrested three of them, the fourth student is absconding.

Ketamine is a dissociative anaesthetic used medically for induction and maintenance of anaesthesia. The use and supply of this drug is tightly regulated and controlled to prevent its abuse as a drug.
Police investigation revealed that a man from the Kotturpuram area supplied marijuana to these students as one kilogram and 30 grams of ganja were seized from him. On this, the police arrested the accused in connection.
This comes after the medical college dean Dr E Theranirajan filed a complaint at the RGGGH police station accusing some students of possessing drugs and consuming them at the hostel, adds The Hindu .
Based on the complaint, a police team entered the hostel and conducted searches which resulted in the recovery of the following drugs and arrest of the students on Monday. Later, they were sent to a court for remand, but they have been recently released on police bail.
