Maharaja Institute of Medical Sciences 2nd-year MBBS student commits suicide
Vijayawada: Depressed over being unable to focus on his studies, a 24-year-old second-year medical student at Maharaja Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) in Nellimarla allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide before hanging himself from the ceiling in his hostel room.
TOI reported that the student was suffering from both peer pressure and extreme academic pressure which are believed to have triggered suicidal thoughts. Despite battling these thoughts for months, he felt overwhelmed and was unable to overcome the mental turmoil.

Preliminary investigation into the case revealed that he was facing difficulties in focusing on his studies due to which he reportedly failed in the second year exams. This caused him extreme mental and emotional distress as he also thought that he would become a failure since his classmates were progressing in their studies while he continued to struggle with his own.
In the suicide note recovered by the police, the deceased wrote, "I'm sorry for the pain I've caused. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't concentrate. I don't know why I'm sad or happy. I feel like a burden to everyone around me. Mom, dad, and brother—you are my life, but I can't continue living like this."
The incident took place yesterday when his unconscious body was found in his room by his classmates. After repeatedly calling and knocking on the door, his classmates did not get a response from the deceased which prompted them to force open the locked door of his room, reports TOI.
His sudden passing has left his family members, friends and the college management in shock. Following the incident, the college authorities alerted the police and a team led by sub-inspector (SI) Ganesh reached the spot.
After conducting a preliminary investigation, the police shifted the student's body to a government hospital in Vizianagaram for a post-mortem. Subsequently, they registered a suicide case and launched an investigation to verify the circumstances surrounding his death.
